Olympic Games: A Brief History
The Olympic Games originated in Ancient Greece somewhere around the 8th century BC. They were part of a religious cult dedicated to the Greek gods, according to a legend living on Mount Olympus, sacred to the Greeks (hence the name of these sports competitions). The Olympic Games of the ancient Greek period include about 293 games (from 776 BC to 394 AD). Of course, in those days, they included only a few sports, but nevertheless they were a large-scale sporting event for this period.
Modern Olympic Games
The Olympic Games received a second life in 1896, when a French public figure proposed to revive the tradition of sports held in the ancient world. It was then that it was decided that these games would be held every four years. Since 1924, the Winter Olympics were also introduced. To organize this grand event in Paris, the Olympic Charter and the IOC were created. It is this organization that will determine where the Olympics will be held for many years to come. 2020, for example, will invite all sports fans to the summer games in Tokyo.
This was decided last year 9-10 years before the games. By the way, the place where the Olympic Games will be held is considered not a country, but a concrete city. But back in 1896, when the charter was created. According to its charter, the Olympic Games were to unite athletes from all over the world, all races and countries to hold equal and fair competitions.

The 2016 games in Brazil have not yet taken place, and everyone is already talking about the Olympics in Tokyo, the capital of the Land of the Rising Sun. They are thirty second in a row. Before determining where the Olympics 2020 will be held, before the end of the summer of 2011, many European, Asian and American countries submitted applications that they were ready to become a host. After that, the International Olympic Committee had to do a great job, namely to analyze the possibilities, conditions and resources of a country and determine the main candidates for the thirty-second Olympic Games. They turned out to be the capital of Spain - Madrid, the capital of Japan - Tokyo, the Turkish port city of Istanbul, the capital of Azerbaijan - Baku and the capital of Qatar - the city of Doha. The last two dropped out of the list of key candidates on May 24, 2013.
Thus, there are only three main candidates left. “So where will the 2020 Summer Olympics be?” - This question was of interest to many, especially the residents of these three cities. However, to give an exact answer to this question became possible only on September 7, 2013. It was on this day that the capital of the most ambitious sporting event was to be determined by voting at the alternate session of the Olympic Committee in Argentina. And Tokyo became it. The capital of Japan gained 42 votes, while Madrid and Istanbul - 26 votes each. For the first time in this city, the 1964 Olympics took place. And 56 years later, the Olympic flame will again be lit under the sky of Tokyo, announcing the start of the thirty-second Olympic Games. Soon after, all the world media trumpeted where the 2020 Olympics would take place. Of course, the inhabitants of the Japanese capital were jubilant, because they will witness one of the most important sporting events.
Is Tokyo ready to host the 2020 Olympics?
The capital of the Land of the Rising Sun is one of the most developed cities in the world. There is a highly developed infrastructure, including in terms of sports facilities, and all this was probably taken into account by the Olympic Charter when deciding on the capital of future Olympic Games.
Tokyo - the capital of the future Olympics
Since 2013, Japan has been preparing for the most important sporting event. After it was decided that the 2020 Olympics will be held in the capital of their country, the construction of several new sports facilities was started. However, what is already available in the country is more than enough to host games of this magnitude.
An opening and closing ceremony will be held at Meiji Shrine, as well as competitions in athletics, football and rugby. Table tennis tournaments will be held at the Tokyo Sports Palace, and handball matches are scheduled to be held in Yoyogi. The area of the palace of the Emperor of Japan in Tokyo is intended for competitions in judo and cycling. Weightlifting competitions will be held in the building of the Tokyo International Forum, and the best amateur boxers from around the world will compete in Ryogoku Kokugikan. The
Olympic Park will host volleyball matches. Ariake gymnastics center will host competitions in gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics, as well as trampolining. Odaiba Marine Park is designed for sports such as swimming and triathlon. For other water sports, the “Water Olympic Center” is intended. In the Youth Arena “A” and “B” will be held matches in badminton and basketball. Several sports, namely archery, equestrian sports will be held on the island of Dreams. Competitions in other sports will be held in new (under construction and already existing) sports facilities, which are rich in the capital of Japan.
