As expected, the Windows 10 operating system, which became available completely free literally at the end of July, turned out to be quite crude. As in other versions, it has a bunch of imperfections. But what annoys users the most is that very often the Windows 10 Start menu does not work. The button that appeared again pleased the users, but at the same time it was with it that rather serious problems arose. How to fix such a failure and put the button back in place? There are at least three main ways. Let's consider each of them in more detail.
Windows 10 Stopped Running: System Restore
So, after installing a “clean” system, all components, as a rule, function normally. There are no complaints from the user. But what if, after a certain amount of time, a situation appears when Windows 10 does not work “Start” (and there is no button, and the main menu is not called or is called only by pressing the “Win” key in the standard version)?
The first step is to establish the exact date when this happened. One of the simplest ways to solve the problem, when “Start” does not work in Windows 10 for some reason, is to roll back the system to an earlier state using a checkpoint created either by the OS itself, or utilities for complex maintenance and system optimization like Advanced System Care, AVZ PC Tune UP, Ahampoo WinOptimizer, Glary Utilities, etc.
It is possible that after restoring and rebooting the system, the Start button is redeployed to its usual place. You can, of course, try to restore Windows from a previously saved copy of the system registry, but, as a rule, ordinary users do not do this, and why, if there are automated utilities?
Start does not work on Windows 10: using Power Shell
However, the above technique may not always be quite effective. The situation cannot be ruled out that Windows 10 does not work for some reason that is not related to changing its configuration. You will have to use manual commands here.
To remedy the situation, you must call the "Task Manager" either with the standard combination Ctrl + Alt + Del, or with the taskmgr command from the "Run" menu (in the absence of the "Start" menu itself, access to it can be obtained by simultaneously pressing the Win + R keys).
Now, in the “File” menu, you will need to use the launch of a new task, where the combination “PowerShell” (without quotes, of course) is entered in the field that appears. Please note that you must use the task creation line with administrator rights, otherwise the system simply will not accept further actions.
Then in the field we enter the following: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$ ($ _. InstallLocation) AppXManifest.xml and press" Enter ". A little patience, and the "Start" (button and the accompanying main menu) will return to its rightful location.
The process of performing such actions may take a little time, and sometimes a reboot may be required. However, in most cases, this method turns out to be the most effective, and the problem that Start does not work in Windows 10 is solved very quickly (even the recommendations of Microsoft specialists testify to this, by the way).
Other methods
In addition, you can restart the Explorer.exe service, create another account and see how the ill-fated button works in it, you can use the creation of additional keys in the registry, but, as practice shows, in most situations this will not be necessary, and the average user will not be able to figure this out.
If nothing helps
It goes without saying that there can be many reasons for this type of failure. If nothing helps at all, and the problem that Start does not work in Windows 10 appears again and again, you will have to contact Microsoft support to find out the causes of the failures and the recommended methods for resolving them. In extreme cases, if expert advice does not work, you will have to completely reinstall the system, after downloading the special installation utility Media Creation Tool on the official Microsoft website. But, I think, this will not come to this.
