Nikolai Maximov was born in the city of Yekaterinburg in 1957. At first, the future entrepreneur was looking for a place in the sun, wanting to enter a military flight school. But fate so happened that for the first time upon admission he did not have enough points for the competition, and the next time his health failed. Therefore, he had to say goodbye to this idea. After this, Nikolai Maximov decides to go to serve in the army, but his uncle quickly dissuades him.
The next milestone in the biography of the future entrepreneur was work at the Ural Electrochemical Plant, where he had to work for fifteen years as a radio equipment installer. The main activity in this period of Nikolai Maksimov’s life was traveling work in various military units of Russia, where he was engaged in a missile readiness verification system. In parallel with this, the future businessman studied at the evening department of the Sverdlovsk Mining University.
The first steps in entrepreneurship
There wasn’t enough money after graduation, so Nikolai Viktorovich Maximov decides to work part-time, namely growing cucumbers on twenty hundred square meters in the city of Troitsk, Chelyabinsk Region. Then, in 1991, a commodity exchange was opened in Yekaterinburg, after which Maximov firmly made the decision to apply for a broker. For a long time they did not respond to it, but nevertheless, at one fine moment, a Moscow company offered him this position. At the same time, Nikolai Maksimov decides to open his own enterprise, which would be engaged in the sale of wood and paper. They called the company "NikTan", that is, Nikolai and Tatyana (the first wife of the entrepreneur). 1991 was the starting year for Maksimov, it was from this time that his entrepreneurial activity began. The next year, Nikolai begins to supply scrap to Uralelectromed. In 1992-1997, he was one of the high-ranking officials of Likonda AOZT, initially as a deputy general director, and then he directly occupied this position.
Opening of a metallurgical company

His next step is to purchase stakes in three small factories in the Urals. In 1996, Maximov acquired the Revdinsky Metallurgical Plant. In 1998, he opens his own company, Maxi-Group. She combined not only previously acquired plants, but also Uralvtormet. The main type of its activity was the production of metallurgical products from ferrous metals. Net profit of Maxi-Group in 2005 amounted to 1.27 billion rubles. However, everything did not go as smoothly as Maximov would have liked. By 2007, the entrepreneur had accumulated large debt obligations in the amount of $ 1.8 billion of the United States of America. In this regard, Maximov decides to sell part of the company’s shares. Regarding the conclusion of the transaction, he negotiated with Russian businessmen, whose business interests included the metallurgical industry, namely with Alexander Frolov, Alisher Usmanov and Alexei Mordashov. As a result of negotiations, the deal was concluded not with them, but with the owner of the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant Vladimir Lisin, who received fifty percent of the shares. However, after three months after the sale, legal proceedings begin. Maximov accused Lisin of incomplete payment of funds for the transaction, while Vladimir, on the contrary, claimed that Nikolai Viktorovich violated the terms of the agreement.
Successful investment
In 2009, Maximov took up the game on the stock exchange. His brokers were companies such as Renaissance Capital, VTB Bank, Troika Dialog, UralSib. In March of that year, Maximov made unique investments. During the fall of quotations Nikolay Viktorovich acquired shares of Sberbank, approximately 1.5 percent. Thus, the entrepreneur from all businessmen in Russia became the largest private shareholder of the country's main state bank. The success of Nicholas did not end there. He predicted an increase in the value of shares, as a result, they increased almost five times.
In autumn 2009, a successful businessman decides to register his place of residence in the Kirov region. The entrepreneur considered it best to pay income tax and build a plant in this part of the Russian Federation. At the same time, Russian special services began to suspect Maximov of exaggerating official powers when using material resources, which, by law, should have been invested in the investment development of Maxi-Group. Law enforcement authorities opened three criminal cases on the businessman, including two under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code (fraud committed by an organized group of persons or on an especially large scale).
