There is a discharge in swimming. How this system appeared, and what is the gradation of discharges, will be considered in this article.

From Antiquities to Fina

People have always sought to find out which of them is “faster, higher, stronger.” For this, competitions were organized in a variety of disciplines. Athletes achievements were recorded. Based on them, certain standards were formed that served as guidelines in systems for assessing human capabilities. The first open water races took place before our era. The rules for their conduct were closely interconnected with the cultural characteristics of a particular nation. Methods of measuring results fell under the same dependence. The origin of general international standards in this area occurred at the end of the 19th century. In 1890, the first European Championship was held. Later, Pierre de Coubertin swimming was included in the program of the Olympic Games. This event caused an extraordinary increase in interest in such competitions, which led to the emergence in 1908 of the International Swimming Federation (FINA). The new body began to develop general rules and concepts, including such as discharge by

Discharge Grading Principles

The assignment is carried out depending on the results shown by the athlete. Adult and youth swimming classes are of three degrees and are ranked from 3rd to 1st. The results can be recorded in tournament competitions at any level. To fix the fulfillment of the norm for the title of the CCM, the competition rank should not be lower than the city one. The awarding of the titles “Master of Sports” and “Master of Sports of International Class” has an age limit. For young men, it is 17 years old, and for girls - 16. At the same time, the competition should have an official status and be held under the auspices of FINA. Evaluation of the results is carried out separately for women and men. The swimming category is assigned in the following forms:

  • freestyle (crawl);
  • breaststroke;
  • butterfly;
  • backstroke ;
  • integrated swimming.

Adoption of standards
2013 discharge table

Separate standards are established for various distances: stayer, medium and sprint. Special rules govern the assessment of athletes during open water races. In this case, the presence of a current in a reservoir is necessarily taken into account. Norms are accepted by FINA followed by approval in national federations. Such a procedure is carried out every three years. In 2011, the current swimming discharge table was adopted. 2013 was a time for FINA to discuss the possibility of an annual review of standards. Presumably, such an innovation will give international rules greater flexibility. In this case, a swimming discharge will be assigned in the maximum accordance with the requirements of the time.
