Asus N73S - a laptop designed to become a full replacement for a regular computer. This is clearly indicated by its dimensions and characteristics. Read more about this 2011 model below.
Appearance
Asus N73S requires a lot of desktop space. It weighs 3.6 kg with a battery; its dimensions are 42.5 x 29 x 3.8 cm.
The case is finished with brushed textured aluminum. The combination of strict black and modern silver looks expensive and stylish.
All ports are located on the right and rear ends, and the left is reserved for an optical drive and ventilation grill.
The laptop has all the connectors necessary for full work:
- HDMI, VGA for connecting to an external monitor or TV;
- Internet - Gigabit Ethernet;
- USB 2.0 (3 pcs.) And USB 3.0 (1 pcs.);
- SD card slot;
- jack for microphone and headphones or speakers.
Asus N73S also has a new interesting option - a built-in digital TV tuner. Therefore, a port for the antenna is added to the standard list of ports. But there is no control panel for the laptop.
Display
The Asus N73S has a large 17.3-inch LED screen with a resolution of 1600 x 900. On this display you can not only work with documents and use the Internet, but also play or edit media files with ease. But, of course, it increases the weight and dimensions of this model, making it less convenient for transportation.
The screen does not have the best viewing angles and contrast levels. Its surface is glossy, so working with it in the sun is problematic.
"Stuffing" Asus N73S
The characteristics of the laptop are very decent, by the standards of 2011, and even today it will prove to be quite good at work. Here is what he can boast of:
- 4-core Intel Core i7-2630QM processor, 2 GHz;
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics card , which is more than enough not only for watching videos from the Internet and movies in HD quality, but also for many games;
- Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics chip - the system quickly switches between it and a full-fledged video card, using the first in situations where complex graphic tasks are not performed in order to save battery power;
- 4 GB with the possibility of increasing up to 8 GB or 6 GB of RAM with the possibility of increasing up to 12 GB, depending on the exact specification of the model;
- it is possible to install 2 physical hard drives (1 is provided upon purchase) with a capacity of 500 GB or 750 GB;
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth version 2.1 (work due to the Atheros AR9004WB-1NG general budget module, therefore they turn on and off together, and the signal level is not the best);
- 2MP webcam.
Battery
A 6-cell battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh is standard. For a laptop with such a screen and other physical components, this is not much, but its dimensions initially do not promise high portability of the device. If desired, you can find specifications with more powerful batteries or buy the right battery separately.
With full load and maximum screen brightness, the laptop can work for about 1.5 hours. For comparison, similar models of competitors will last in this mode for about 1 hour. If you use a laptop not so intensively and lower the screen brightness settings, then it is quite possible to work out without recharging for about 4 hours.
What do real buyers say about the Asus N73S?
Reviews about the laptop are almost completely positive. Of course, at the time the sales started, he had a rather big cost - about $ 1,000, but at that time the costs paid off. With a large and beautiful screen, a fairly powerful hardware, all the necessary ports and communication protocols, it exceeded many desktop computers of the budget segment.
Of course, its portability leaves much to be desired - along with charging and a special bag, the weight of the load will reach almost 6 kg, but this is a drawback that is noticeable at first glance and is inevitable if you need a large screen and relatively moderate cost.
To summarize
In 2011, the Asus N73S was a high-profile 2-in-1 innovation: laptop and desktop in the same machine. Today, its characteristics are outdated, and the price bar for such models has significantly decreased. However, it will be almost impossible to find it in the primary market, and in the secondary there are more affordable offers. But we must not forget that in 5 years the battery must have lost its properties, and many other components could already suffer from wear.
