Swimming with brass is one of the four main sports styles that are used in the sport of the same name. When using it, the swimmer is located belly down and makes symmetrical movements with his feet and hands in a plane parallel to the surface of the water. The fundamental difference from other techniques here is that during the movement of the athlete’s hands are not carried out. This also explains the fact that swimming with brass is much slower than with a crawl or butterfly. There are also advantages here, primarily related to the fact that no sounds are made in the water. Moreover, a swimmer who uses this method has a wide view, and he has the ability to overcome long distances.

The technique of swimming with brass involves three phases. It starts with an outward stroke, followed by an inward stroke with the hands, and ends with a return. Now in more detail. At the first stage, the hands should be as deep as possible immersed under the water, not bent, and then spread out in opposite directions outward by the palms. Next, turn the brushes down with your palms and push the water back. This movement continues to the swimmer's shoulder level. Before the last phase of the cycle begins, the palms join near the chest. The last step is to return to the original position. The speed at the beginning will be very small, however, it will further develop and reach a peak with internal stroke. At the moments of transitions between phases, it falls again.

During hand strokes, the athlete must simultaneously lift both legs. At the same time, the feet expand as wide as possible relative to the knees and perform strong shocks. Swimmer's arms parallel stretch forward. When the full cycle is completed, it will continue to slide for a while on the surface of the water. At this time, the athlete's main task is to stretch out completely, which will significantly reduce resistance. Now a few words about breathing. When swimming with brass, it is very important that the head repeats the movements made by the spine. Support for it is formed at the time of lowering the hands of the swimmer under the body. At this time, oxygen should be inhaled by the mouth. Exhalation is carried out with further movement - at the same time with the nose and mouth.

In a discipline such as brass racing, two varieties of launch are now practiced. The first of these is a row start. It consists in the fact that the swimmer needs to put both legs in front of the nightstand. The second type is a track start. Its difference is that one athlete’s foot is behind the other. The starting reaction of a competitor in the first case will be several fractions of a second higher. For short distances this is of the utmost importance. According to official rules, competitions in swimming with barask are held in a 25 or 50 meter pool. As for the distance, in the largest competitions of the world, the winners are determined at a distance of four hundred or two hundred meters.
