Philologists discovered the first mention of the Russian form in 1764. It was a direct translation of voyage from French - “travel”. An earlier version of the term is called the Latin viaticum, which means money for spending on the way. Or viaticus, which pointed to any object procured for a long journey.
It can be concluded that this is not about spontaneous travel, but about a carefully thought out, phased planned tour.
