If we say that, for example, a girl is conceited, it simply means arrogance, excessive importance, the manifestation of arrogance towards people around. About a person pleasant to us, we can hardly say so. From this it is clear that the meaning of the word “arrogant” has exclusively negative connotations.
In official business correspondence or a scientific article, using this word will be quite inappropriate. Nevertheless, in journalism, informal correspondence, or fiction, it is common because it has a high level of expression. In the stylistic register, the word "arrogant" is a conversational level.
There are many synonyms for this word. “Confessed” - this is about the same as ascended, proud, raised her nose, puffed up, and grabbed excessively.
