Jordi Masip is currently the backup goalkeeper for the Catalan Barcelona. This football player does not pretend to become the main or at least spare goalkeeper, but at the same time he is in no hurry to leave the club. Jordi Masip spent his entire career in Barcelona, ββso he does not see the point in changing anything now.
Carier start
Jordi Masip was born on January 3, 1989 in Spain, in the Catalan city of Sabadell. Therefore, naturally, from early childhood, his dream was to play for Barcelona. At the age of twelve, he enrolled in the football academy of the Mersantil club, where he spent the next three years, after which something he always dreamed of happened.
Jordi tried his hand at viewing in the youth team of Barcelona and was accepted. For three years he played for the youth squads of the Catalan club, until in 2007 he was offered a professional contract. Jordi Masip spent another year in the youth team of Barcelona, ββand then was sent on loan to the Spanish club Vilajuiga, where he spent 24 matches, gaining much-needed experience and making a good impression on the fans.
Double of Barcelona
When Jordi Masip, whose biography in Barcelona was clearly not the best, returned from the lease, he did not find a place in the main team. He was sent back to the double, where he played for three years not too often - he appeared on the field only 24 times.
But since 2012, his performances for the double of the Catalan club have become much more frequent. In the 12/13 season, he defended on goal in 21 matches, and in the next season - already 34 matches. As a result, in 2014, the 25-year-old goalkeeper was finally promoted to the main team, but he still remained on the role of a reservist.
The game for Barcelona
Each goalkeeper dreams of having the first number on his back, however this is not the case of this Spanish goalkeeper. The number of Jordi Masip is 25, but he does not claim to be anything more. He is the third goalkeeper in Barcelona - in two seasons from 2014 to 2016 he was sitting on the bench under Claudio Bravo and Mark-Andre ter Stegen. During this time he went on the field four times - three of them in the Spanish Cup and one in the Spanish Championship.
This season, Claudio Bravo left the club, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen became the main goalkeeper, but the Dutchman Jasper Silessen was bought to replace him, and Masip was again in the role of the third goalkeeper. To date, this season he has not played a single match for the team, but he is not going to leave the club yet. He has one more year of the contract, which he is quite likely to extend, because even as the third goalkeeper, he still twice won the Spanish Championship, twice - the winner of the Spanish Cup, and one more time - the winner of the Champions League.
Team appearances
With such a small amount of practice, the Spanish national team naturally has no place for Masip. Moreover, he was not considered a particularly promising player even at a younger age, so he has only one match for the Spanish youth team under 17 years old. Several times he was called up to the youth teams of this and other age categories, but he remained on the bench.
Separately, it is worth mentioning that in 2014 Masip received a call to the national team of Catalonia and played two matches in its composition. But the Catalan team is not official, it does not have the right to participate in major international tournaments, so all the matches that it holds are friendly. One way or another, Jordi Masip still played for this team, but it also cannot be said that he played a lot in its composition. What awaits Masip in the future? It is still unknown, it is necessary to wait and see if the club management prolongs the contract with him, and if not, then where will the 27-year-old goalkeeper who spent his entire career in Barcelona go.
