Krasniy Yar, as Krasnoyarsk used to be called, begins its history at the beginning of the 17th century, when the governor Andrei Dubensky laid a prison of wood. Later, a settlement began to form around this fortress and the guard tower. Its inhabitants were engaged in agriculture.
At the end of XVII, Siberia became part of Russia, the tower and fortress were no longer needed, and the settlement received the status of a city. By the beginning of the XVIII century, there were more than 2500 people in this place. It has not yet been found gold.
