The mysterious foreign word "supervisor" is quite often found in job titles. What is this profession? Its name comes from the English verb supervise - to watch, observe, manage, control.
A supervisor is a manager of a junior or middle management: a group is subordinate to him, which consists of ten to fifteen, at least twenty people. In different companies, supervisors are full-time or freelance. What are they doing?
They conduct interviews with new employees, establish and maintain personal contact with each of the subordinates, check and evaluate their work, help them adapt in the team, train and motivate the team, distribute tasks and monitor their timely completion,
evaluate the quality of work, analyze its results and transmit information about them to higher managers, as well as organize advanced training courses or conduct training themselves. Supervisors are sometimes compared with foremen and foremen, but the latter are work positions, and the supervisor is a leading, albeit not high. However, it allows you to acquire practical experience and knowledge in various fields, learn to make decisions and manage people. In the future, all this helps a lot to climb up the career ladder.
What skills and character traits are needed for this job? The supervisor is primarily the organizer and controller. Therefore, developed
leadership qualities and developed
communication skills, knowledge of human psychology, the ability to see the situation as a whole and predict its development are important to him. The ability to plan one’s and others ’actions, stress tolerance, observation, determination and diligence are qualities that every supervisor should have. That is not all: he needs a good understanding of the specifics of the activity that he organizes, and all its subtleties. Therefore, he, like every modern manager, needs a higher education. The supervisor should be from 20 to 40 years old, so
experience in the specialty is desirable, but not required.
What are the working conditions? A supervisor is not an office worker. In trading, he most often controls merchandisers and promoters. In the first case, he not only receives reports from a subordinate, but also visits sales outlets, learns how the goods are sold, and makes sure that he is correctly laid out on shelves. The supervisor also interacts with promoters right on the spot: monitors their activities and teaches them how to more effectively influence the customer.
Since this is a work of traveling nature, applicants for it are often required to have a driver’s license and a personal car. However, the company can provide business vehicles and a mobile phone, and when using its own equipment must compensate for the costs. If control over promoters or merchandisers involves trips around the city, then, for example, a drilling supervisor is a shift work.
