Kung Fu, Drunken Fist Style

Most people don’t take the Drunken Fist style seriously, considering it nothing more than a fiction of the film industry. In fact, it exists, but is not so popular among martial arts fans. Not only because of its name, but also because some consider it not effective enough. But the drunken fist style is specific, but no worse than other kung fu trends.

Features of the direction

Zui Quan ("Drunken Fist") is based on the movements inherent in a drunk person. This is a shaky gait, fuzzy and uncoordinated actions - in fact, they are always thought out and effective in action.

Features of the "Drunken Fist" style are:

  • the technique of blows is jumping and falling;
  • cheating movements;
  • punches are like the movements of a drunk person;
  • attack and retreat consist of stumbling and reeling;
  • slightly offensive opponent movement.

The Kung Fu style “Drunken Fist” combines boxing, movements of a drunk person, skating on the ground and wrestling. It turned out an amazing direction of martial art, which looks not only exciting and beautiful, but also effective in battle.

Basics of this style

At the heart of all movements is "splashing" or, as it is also called, "a hollow vessel with wine in the stomach." A person should imagine that the lower abdomen is hollow, in which there is only wine. It is it, moving through the body, that directs human actions. The peculiarity of the “Drunken Fist” style also consists in the fact that when simulating strong staggering of the body and general uncoordinated and unbalanced movements, a person can suddenly attack from uncomfortable positions.

Despite the apparent clumsiness and poor coordination, in fact, a person should be able to feel and maintain balance, which will be an advantage during the battle. At the Wushu martial arts school, the “Drunken Fist” style is one of the most difficult because the student must have a high level of basic physical fitness. In order for the skill of “splashing” movements to appear, it is necessary to work out their flexibility and smoothness of the execution of techniques, including the acrobatic part.

Despite its name, the Drunken Fist style does not imply intoxication. Because in this state it will be dangerous to do most acrobatic techniques. This style is chosen so that the opponent could not guess your next action. A variety of tricks and falls are used not only for defense, but also for attack.

Requirements for the use of a "drunk fist"

To master this direction of this martial art, you need to have developed flexibility, ease, agility and the ability to coordinate movements. All this can be developed in the learning process. But besides all these qualities, a person must be able to control his emotions, so that the opponent could not predict his actions, disguised as a clumsy movement.

Masters of Kung Fu style "Drunken Fist" have a high level of concentration and excellent eyesight, which allows them to follow the fight. Their hands are trained, all their movements are not just an imitation of a drunk person, they have a clear focus, and they are elastic. Masters know how to change their pace at the right time: how to speed it up and slow it down.

The tactical basis of this direction is simple, although its execution is unusual: creating the appearance of defense is actually the attacking side, aiming in one place, but attacking in a different way. All this allows you to reach the maximum level in the regulation of reflexes and coordination of movements, so that the enemy is confused during the battle and acts as you need.

Buddhist style

Its creation is associated with the Shaolin Temple. There are several legends about its appearance. One of them is associated with the rule of the Tang Dynasty. Several Shaolin monks decided to go to help Li Shimin so that he could cope with the rebel forces. Li Shimin generously awarded the monks who made an invaluable contribution to the battle. As gifts, he sent the monks wine and meat. And, having received the permission of the emperor, they could refuse one of the Buddhist rules "not to consume wine and meat." Since then, some monks have been drinking wine.

"Drunk Style" was introduced during the reign of the Song Dynasty. One martial artist named Liu Qiyang sought refuge in one of the Shaolin monasteries. Despite the fact that he became a monk, he continued to drink wine. This was unacceptable to the monks, and therefore they wanted to expel him.

Once, after drinking wine, Liu Qiyang showed a high level of combat skill, which was appreciated by the abbot. Since then, zu chuan began to learn and improve other monks. Shaolin style "Drunken Fist" is not a special kind of direction. It consists of techniques of hand-to-hand and armed varieties of martial art. At the heart are all the principles of the traditional Shaolin Quan.

Taoist style

The basis of this trend is the Taoist legend of eight celestials who were not alien to human weaknesses. Once, having drunk too much, they all fought among themselves. And so it turned out the Taoist style of Zui Quan, imitating the character of each of the Eight Immortals.

This complex consists of 8 parts, which are dedicated to a certain celestial. They include basic movements that mimic the weakness of a drunk person, and powerful techniques, such as kicks, grips and punches that can break enemy joints. Also in the Taoist complex there are dodging and preemptive strikes.
