To date, the German national team has an incredibly reliable pair of central defenders, consisting of Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels. However, far from always they can be in service - therefore, Hevedes Benedict comes to the rescue. This central defender, who is also able to play on both sides of the defense, has been playing for the Schalke Gelsenkirchen all his career, he won the fans' love and respect not only for his dedication to the club, but also for his excellent and reliable game. Hevedes Benedict is the heart of Schalke.
Carier start
Hevedes Benedict was born on February 29, 1988, and from the age of six he began to get involved in football professionally, going to the sports school of the local club. He spent six years there, after which he moved to another football academy, until in 2001 he ended up in Gelsenkirchen, where he was admitted to Schalke. It was there that he began his career, and, as Hevedes Benedict himself says, there he will finish it.
Club heart
Back in 2007, Benedict Hevedes got his first chance to play Schalke as a base when he was only 19 years old. Naturally, in his first season he did not have many matches - there were only nine. In general, until 2009, Benedict often found himself in the teamโs double, but his talent was gradually revealed, and already in 2009, the young talent became a base player. Gradually, he began to turn into a key figure of the club and today is its leader and at the same time a symbol.
Benedict Hevedes is the defender who has played 289 matches for Schalke, and now he is only 28 years old. He just reached the peak of his career, and if injuries do not interfere with him, then he can play no less in the future. However, Benedict stands not only for Schalke - he also almost always receives calls to the German national team, where although he does not play such an important role, he is always part of the rotation.
Performances for the German national team
The defender received his first call to the German national team in 2011, when he was already 23 years old. Then he played in the position of a right-back, and in a friendly match against the national team of Uruguay, he came out in the second half to replace, allowing Philip Lam to leave to rest. At that time, many thought that a suitable shift was growing for Lama, but over time it became clear that Hevedes was still inferior in class to this magnificent wingback, and also looked much better in the center of defense. As a result, Hevedes periodically flirted in the qualifying matches for the 2012 European Championship , to which he was announced and even went. However, he never managed to enter the field - he spent the entire tournament in reserve.

But in 2014, which was a triumph for the Germans, Hevedes was very welcome. The German national team had problems with the left flank of defense, and the central defender Hevedes gladly took this position. He had a great tournament and made a serious contribution to the fact that the Germans won the 2014 World Cup. He even gave one assist in the group stage match against Ghana.
As for the European Championship in 2016, here Hevedes was already originally used to close the hole on the right in the defense formed after completing a career in the Philippe Lama team. But his performances there were far from ideal, so in the next two matches he went on as a substitute, in the quarterfinals with the Italians he became the third central defender along with Boateng and Hummels, and in the semifinal that the Germans lost to the French, he was paired with Boateng, so how Hummels was disqualified.
Achievements
For Schalke, Hevedes won only the German Cup in 2011, and then the German Super Cup. But with the national team he was able to achieve an incredible result - he became the owner of the World Cup.
