The main differences between IMR and T-55

As mentioned earlier, the engineering clearing vehicle was constructed on the basis of the T-55 medium tank. To do this, I had to change the design in a certain way. The following changes have been made:

  • special reinforcement sheets were welded to the bottom of the IMR, and the design of the turret formation was also changed;
  • a tower was welded to the top sheet of the hull of the former tank, in which the driver is now located;
  • some changes also appeared in the transmission - the “Guitar” from BTS-2 was installed;
  • all observation devices with which the tank was equipped were replaced with small viewing windows;
  • the night-vision device , from TVN-2 to PNV-57, was also replaced.

As for the working parts of the engineering demolition machine, they include bulldozer and boom equipment, as well as a scraper-baking powder, a power take-off and hydraulic drive mechanism.

Description of the device

As for the boom equipment, its main purpose is as follows.

  • Transportation of beams, plates, debris and other bulky items.

This equipment is divided into smaller parts. One of these elements is the central blade. This is a fully welded structure that attaches to the frame holder. In addition, the blade is able to rotate on the pivot pin left and right, but rather weakly, only 10 degrees to either side. The design of the wings is built on a similar principle.

It is worth noting that the IMR bulldozer equipment can operate in three positions. The first is called a double dump and when activated, the width is 3,560 mm. The second position is a bulldozer with a width of 4,150 mm. The latter is a grader position whose width is 3,395 mm.

Everything is quite simple here and, except for two main elements, a scraper and a baking powder, this includes only the central part, represented by two beams. The difference between IMR and IMR-2

It is worth mentioning that the IMR hydraulic drive has significant differences from the engineering IMR-2 barrage machine. This difference is as follows:

  • 5 gear pumps of the NSh-46d type were installed at the IMR. Such a design in total reduces the total capacity of hydropower sources.
  • WRI consumes less hydropower due to the fact that its design lacks five additional hydraulic cylinders.
  • The performance of hydraulic filters is also reduced, since their number is equal to only two parts.
  • In the hydraulic tank, the IMR does not have a temperature sensor, and there is no limiter for the working fluid.
  • Safety valves of type BG-52-14 are usually installed on the machine, but at the same time they do not have a complete structural development.

IMR-3M is designed to ensure the advancement of military columns, and not for civilian use. She copes with clearing anti-tank minefields, and is also able to pave the way through them.

The weight of this machine is much more and is 50.8 tons, and the maximum speed at the same time is 60 km / h, but only on the highway. As for the engine, four-stroke multi-fuel V-84MS diesel engines are installed on it, the power of which is 840 liters. from.

A slight similarity with civilian models is that the IMR-3M has a bulldozer and a switch unit. However, the second type of equipment is additionally equipped with such a device as a URO - a universal working body or manipulator. The maximum boom reach and carrying capacity are also similar and are 8 meters and 2 tons, respectively.
