Often, many computer users in everyday work are faced with a phenomenon such as BSOD, called the blue screen of death. The reasons for its appearance can be quite a lot. But now let us dwell on the case when this is due to the mention of the Atikmdag.sys file (the blue screen directly signals this). Let's see what types of failures are, what they are associated with and how to fix them.

In general, as is commonly believed, a blue screen, in which there is an indication of a failure to access our file, appears for a reason. As for the file itself, it is a system component, therefore, it alone serves to ensure the operability of the operating system in terms of initializing the Radeon family of video cards with the subsequent installation of the driver.
Another type of Atikmdag.sys file in Windows Vista (there are two of them) serves to ensure the sending of documents for printing, but again, by itself, it does not create conflicts.
As for the blue screen, in most cases this is due to the “gathering” of the Radeon video accelerator driver, a breakdown of the video card itself, problems with the motherboard (or rather, power supply to the components installed on it), etc. Consider some of the major errors associated with the Atikmdag.sys file. The blue screen - the failure is far from critical. So it is possible and necessary to deal with this phenomenon. If the failure appeared relatively recently, initially you can try to simply restore the system from the control point preceding its appearance. But the problem may lie not only in this.

Such an error can appear mainly due to problems with the Radeon graphics accelerator. First, you should try to completely remove all device drivers, after installing them again. Moreover, it is advisable to install the latest drivers, for example, using the Driver Booster utility, which, when downloaded, refers directly to the official Internet resource of the manufacturer of this equipment.
If this option does not help, and the blue screen of death (the Atikmdag.sys file is indicated as failed) appears again, it may very well be that the user should replace the graphics accelerator. BUT! You need to install any other video card in the system that is not a product of ATI Radeon or even a whole family. Take any NVIDIA graphics adapter, install it on the motherboard, install the drivers, and then watch how the system behaves. If everything is in order, the problem is in the video system. If the BSOD appears again, then the problem is in the motherboard.
Here the situation most often arises when the main reason for the appearance of a failure is that due to some factors, an unstable voltage is applied to the video card, so to speak, by spasmodic waves. Because of this, the power supply overheats, which leads to the appearance of the screen.
No less common phenomenon can be called the usual discharge of the battery located on the "motherboard", which is responsible for controlling the system date and time on a stationary computer. What is most sad, while the battery itself is capable of emitting some types of caustic toxic substances that adversely affect the motherboard as a whole. Now it remains to copy the new file from the desktop to the Drivers folder and reboot the system. The last command replaces the old file with the new Atikmdag.sys. The blue screen should no longer appear. But that is not all.

Another type of failure, also associated with the search file, can appear mainly in the "seven", moreover, with a very large number of local users on one computer terminal.
In order not to get into the jungle of fixing the situation programmatically manually, many experts recommend just downloading from the Internet a ready-made patch called stop 0x0000003B Win32k.sys, which was specifically designed specifically for this type of failure. The only condition is the included update (system update). After its execution, the problem should disappear.
Other types of errors
There is another type of error - system_service_exception (atikmdag.sys). The first such failure appeared in Windows 8.1. It is also associated with Radeon cards, but in most cases it manifests itself for some reason when watching a video, for example, on social networks or on popular video hosting sites.
