A vegetable like onion has a pungent taste and a specific smell. It is eaten, used in folk medicine. Onions are grown everywhere, even at home. It has several varieties, including species such as onions, and family. There is also Indian onion, however, it is impossible to eat it. In order for bulbs to be large and suitable for use, it is important to be able to properly organize the cultivation of onions and family.
Growing onions
Onions are often not easy to grow. The easiest way is to buy a ready-made sevc and plant it, it is more difficult to grow onions from seeds. In the first case, purchased onions are planted on beds, the soil of which was dug up and seasoned with rotten manure in the fall. At the end of summer, it remains to harvest large bulbs, which can also be eaten.
But growing onions from seeds is a long process, stretching for two whole seasons.
In the first year, seeds are grown from seeds. Seeds must first be germinated. To do this, they are wrapped in a tissue bag, which is moistened with water. The bag is placed in a warm place and waiting for the shoots to appear, not forgetting to periodically spray it with water. Then the sprouted seeds are scattered on previously prepared grooves, they are covered with a light layer of soil. The bed is covered with a film until the first shoots appear, after which it must be removed. When the seedlings get stronger, it is necessary to thin out so that between each plant there is a distance of 3-4 cm. Further care is reduced to watering and removing weeds. The fact that it is time to dig the bulbs, says fallen and dry onion tops. Selected bulbs are selected: larger ones can be eaten, and those that are smaller need to be well dried and stored until next year. In the new season, sowing is planted on the beds, and at the end of summer it gives a good harvest.
Onion family growing
If growing onions takes longer, then onions are family-friendly - the crop gives much faster, although, of course, caring for it is also necessary. The family onion has a scientific name - shallots, although it is used very rarely. We must pay tribute to the fact that the family onion ripens much earlier than onions - from planting to harvesting it takes about 50-70 days. It is called family because a whole family of smaller bulbs grows from one planted bulb. The landing principle is the same as described above. True, in some cases, one bulb is divided into two or four parts, thereby increasing the amount of planting material. Family onions are not as large as onions, but they are much better stored, often for 2-3 years. Vegetable growers love it not only for the speed of maturation, but for their unpretentiousness to growing conditions.
Indian onion growing
Indian onions (according to the scientific poultry catcher), like family and onions, belong to the onion family, although they have little in common with the latter. Firstly, Indian onion itself is very toxic, although it has found application in folk medicine. The main rule βdo not overdo itβ plays an important role here. Secondly, Indian onions are more an indoor plant than a garden plant, although growing them outdoors also takes place. You can grow it from seeds or borrow a small bulb, which usually grows next to the mother. When planting, the bulb is buried in the ground with only its lower part, otherwise it is completely located on the surface. Beautiful green leaves twist at the end of the bulb. From these leaves, you can determine the age of the Indian onion, since each year only one leaf grows. It should be noted that the Indian onion blooms very beautifully and for a long time, delighting its owner with its small flowers in the form of stars.
