What is flood and spam on the Internet?

The Internet has brought into our lives not only a lot of useful information and new acquaintances, but also a lot of new words that have peacefully migrated to our vocabulary from the English language and have become familiar. It is known that every user of the World Wide Web, going online, has a specific goal: someone is looking for information on scientific sites to prepare for a seminar at the university, someone turns on the computer to pick up another girlfriend for the evening, someone works. Each Internet user has repeatedly faced with the so-called flood and spam.

So what is flood and spam really?

Spam - unauthorized distribution of messages of an advertising nature to persons who do not want to receive them. Spam can be compared to paper correspondence, which we often find in our inbox: all kinds of booklets for shops and advertising brochures.

In order to answer the question "what is flood?", We turn to the English language. Literally, flood is translated as “flooding” or “flood”. Distinguishing a flood from a regular message is very easy. It is often an empty message, or, conversely, cluttered with all kinds of signs. The person sending out such messages is called flooding, and his occupation is called service or flooding.

Flood - these are messages that do not carry any meaning, often sent to forums and Internet chats. For a person who does not understand the intricacies of the Internet, spam and flood mean almost the same thing. The verb “flood” (literally: flood a forum with a stream of messages) also means - surprise someone, shock him with unexpected information. Flooder - he is also a troublemaker of the Internet society.

Spam is a special type of advertising. At the same time, its sender - spammer is not interested in the composition and age of the audience. The main goal of his activity is to send messages to as many users as possible. Sometimes spam is sent to send Trojans - special programs that collect information from the user's computer. Administrative responsibility is provided for spamming in a number of countries . Often the only form of punishment for spam in Russia is to block a spammer’s account and deprive it of the ability to send a large number of messages.

What is a flood, not every user knows, although he often encounters it on the Internet. In colloquial language, "flood" means "speak off topic." What is it for?

Firstly, to attract attention to your person. Often, floods are used by individuals, so to speak, deprived of nature: they have no jokes in their reserves, or interesting life stories, but I want to chat. That's when flood comes to the rescue.

Secondly, to distract and divert attention. For example, you gave out some terrible secret that no one on the forum should know about. In order to distract the attention of members of the forum, you can begin to flood, that is, turn the conversation into a completely different direction.

Sometimes a flood is useful, but most often it significantly clogs communication on the network. To facilitate the activities of the flooder, a bunch of programs have long been written. For example, the FeykWM flood program allows you to steal user forum accounts. If messages written on your behalf appear on any forum, you must change the password or account.

Often, the term flood refers to a hacker attack on a server. What is a flood for a hacker? This is an automatic mailing of messages, the main purpose of which is to clog network channels and lead to a complete stoppage of the site. Today on the Internet you can flood with impunity. The only punishment for such behavior on online forums can be a ban - restricting the user’s rights on the site (for example, the right to write messages).
