Throughout its history, mankind seeks to work as efficiently as possible with the minimum required amount of resources, including working time. For many centuries, whole theories have been developed on how to make labor as efficient as possible. All these theories are now reflected in such a science as management, especially in the part that relates to work with personnel. One of the most important management methods is the analysis of the use of working time.
This method was proposed by representatives of the very first school of management - the so-called scientific school. Its representatives approached a person’s work in the same way as a machine’s work, understanding that the operations performed by an employee are essentially the same, which means that they can somehow be made more efficient. In this case, the analysis of the use of working time was reduced to detecting the time required for each individual production operation. It was thanks to the application of such a method that the benefits of the division of labor were scientifically substantiated, which was later more successfully proved using conveyor production, Mr. Henry Ford.
Today, the analysis of the use of the fund of working time is a slightly different procedure. First of all, it is necessary to determine that it is possible to analyze the use of time both at production enterprises and non-production ones, that is, those where employees are mainly engaged in office work. It is logical to assume that for different types of enterprises the logic of this method will be slightly different, although in general it will remain unchanged - you need to understand what operations take the most time from employees, and try to imagine how to optimize their work. An analysis of the use of working time by employees of large industrial enterprises shows that the simplest way to increase the efficiency of an enterprise is to maximize the separation of production operations - the simpler the employee performs, the more efficient and faster he does it, gradually bringing his movements to automaticity.
The situation with office employees is completely different. An analysis of the use of the fund of working time by employees of large office centers indicates another problem - office workers do not perform monotonous physical work, they are more involved in mental activity, and besides, they are often tied to the concept of “deadline” - the deadline for completion of work. Ordinary human psychology tells them the inexpediency of completing work before the deadline, so it is very often put aside in a long box, and then done at the last moment.
When analyzing the working time of office employees, it is also necessary to take into account external factors acting on the employee, such as lighting, the atmosphere in the team, the need to interrupt work for meetings and so on. Bilateral economic incentives will be an effective method of increasing labor productivity — for example, paying a bonus for early delivery of work, and at the same time introducing a penalty for delivery later than the deadline. This method shows the greatest efficiency when working with office personnel.
