Vegetables grown on the site are not only products for maintaining human health and life. Many gardeners are trying to grow the world's largest cucumber, giant pumpkin, a huge apple, or the heaviest beet. The results of their work amaze the imagination with their volumes and even fall into the Guinness Book of Records. Although for various reasons, not all giants are registered there.
Ragbir Singh Sagber raised an Armenian cucumber
British land probably has something mysterious. Farmer Ragbir Sagber managed to grow a fruit on it, which remeasures all Guinness records. Its length is 129.54 centimeters. This is truly the largest cucumber in the world!
On the account of the grower there is another giant grown in 2018. That cucumber was a little shorter than the current one, only 99 centimeters long.
However, according to the Air Force agency, this fact cannot be fixed as a record. Experts concluded that this vegetable belongs to Cucumis meloflexuosus, that is, to Armenian cucumbers, the second name of which is serpentine melon. And in the Book of Records exclusively cucumbers (Cucumis sativus) are entered. Now Sanger wants to apply for the opening of another category in the Book of Records, in order to become a winner there.
In the meantime, a photo of the largest cucumber in the world walks on the network and surprises users. The vegetable grower himself explains the receipt of this amazing fruit by the fact that every morning he, on his knees, read a prayer "in the name of his own health, well-being of the family and ... for the cucumber."
Claire Pierce, who was late to apply
This seventy-eight-year-old British resident could in 2010 rightfully enter the Book of Records, if not for her forgetfulness. She was late with the application, and the fruit of hard work fell into disrepair. Nevertheless, her harvest surprised neighbors and acquaintances. It would be one of the largest cucumbers in the world, because its length was 119 centimeters.
But an elderly British woman does not become discouraged. Together with her granddaughter Louise Johnson, they continue to achieve new results. According to the pensioner, she did not feed the giant with anything special, she simply performed normal watering.
It is also surprising that one of the largest cucumbers in the world grew from expired seeds. Claire had long forgotten about them, and landed just like that, not even hoping that they would rise.
Daniel Tomelin and his Big Larry
This grower from the Canadian city of Kelowna, British Columbia, raised a giant cucumber in 2015. He even gave him a name - Big Larry.
The vegetable reached 113.03 centimeters in length. By this parameter, we can already say that the cucumber is larger than all those registered in the Guinness book. The diameter of its widest part is four and a half inches. Translated to centimeters, this will be 11.43.
"This is from synergistic gardening. While caring for Larry, I was constantly engaged in deep mulching and just covered the soil with organic matter all the time," he explains.
Tomelin began the process of challenging the current record, but, apparently, did not reach the end. Shortly before the arrival of the commission authorized to take the proper measurements, Big Larry got into trouble: “My friend’s long neck became too soft. I had to remove it from the garden ... ", - Daniel told in a tweet to reporters who kept the situation under control and reported in the news about what was happening to everyone interested.
Butch Tolton does not need glory
In 2011, a 72-year-old vegetable grower from Knoxville, Maryland, raised 109.22 centimeters in length. But Butch refused to submit an application for registration for the Book of Records, motivating the decision that the process is not worth the hassle.
“I just cut it and take out the seeds,” he said. “And then I will plant some seeds next year.”
But to show everyone inquisitive what the largest cucumber in the world looks like, Tolton nevertheless agreed, and took a picture with a giant vegetable “for memory for posterity”.
Record cucumbers of different years
One of the record holders is Joe Atherton. The hardworking gardener was able to succeed by growing an 80 cm long cucumber on his land.
Another holder of the honorary record was Philip Vauls. A vegetable lover weighing 7 kg amazed many vegetable gardeners who were less fortunate.
In 2008, Frank Dimmock, a grower from Okfordshire, managed to enter the Book of Records with his amazing cucumber. The length of his masterpiece was 1.05 meters.
Israeli lucky Yitzhak Izdapandan without the use of any chemicals in three months has grown a cucumber giant 1.2 meters long.
Alfo Cobba - two-time "cucumber" champion
And this record holder is a native of Great Britain. Alfo Cobba is the holder of two Guinness World Records. The first giant cucumber was 89.2 centimeters long.
The vegetable, presented to the commission in 2003, reached a length of already 91.7 centimeters. Today, among the registered champions, this is the largest cucumber in the world, whose weight is 12.4 kilograms.
Alfo claims that everyone can grow a giant fruit. You just need to choose the right varietal seeds. During the formation of the ovaries, the largest fruit on the plant is selected. He is left alone on the bush, and the rest are removed. During the maturation and growth of such a cucumber, you need to regularly turn it over.
