Tim Cahill has a very interesting origin. His father is an Irishman. Mom is a native of Samoa. So Timothy could theoretically choose for himself any of the three teams - Samoa, Ireland or Australia. He made a choice in favor of the latter.
Interestingly, it was his parents who wanted Tim and their two sons (Chris and Sean) to become football players. And certainly not rugby players like their cousins.
