The concept

The elbow lever - Armbar - is part of the painful arm technique - Armlock. Its principle of action is to force the enemy’s elbow up until it is bent unnaturally when using any support.

In practice, this is as follows. The attacking fighter is on the side of the opponent lying on his back. Next, the attacker must throw his legs over the neck and chest of the opposing one, holding the opponent’s hand with them. Now it is necessary to straighten the arm of the soldier lying below in the region of the elbow and slowly bend it until the enemy gives a sign that he is giving up. Usually this is a few hits with your free hand on the floor surface.

Types of pain leverage elbow

There are several types of this technique:

  1. Hand grip under the shoulder. The attacker fixes the opponent’s shoulder so that his forearm is under the elbow of the clasped hand. Then presses the opponent to the floor and conducts a painful technique to extend the elbow. This method can be used both sideways and lying down.
  2. Reception through the thigh begins with lateral retention. Then the attacker at the opponent’s hand holds the thigh, pre-clamping the forearm. Next, you need to bend your hand through your thigh and stretch it.
  3. Acceptance through the forearm after holding across. The attacker captures the forearm of the opponent’s far arm. Then pain is carried out - it is necessary to raise the elbow with your forearm. Reception is performed on both hands alternately.
  4. Grip your arms between your legs. In a standing position, the attacker grabs the proximal arm of the lying opponent and pulls it towards himself until his hips fix it. Then you need to sit down and throw your leg over the opponent’s neck. The same thing is done with the second leg. Then they need to be crossed and the hand fixed with hips until the elbow rests in the attacker's stomach. To carry out pain.
  5. Reception using legs on top. Opponent is in a bent position, arms are divorced. The attacker grabs the gate from under the near shoulder, being from behind. In this case, the far leg is located at the opposite knee of the opponent. Next, you need to lie on the floor and move the leg so that the thigh is over the shoulder, and the lower leg is under the neck of the opponent. The shoulder is fixed by the hips, pain is performed. The body must be bent to the maximum.

Technical Errors

When taking the elbow lever through the forearm, the main errors are:

  • weak shoulder fixation ;
  • the opponent’s hand is not fully fixed.

When using thigh, the following errors:

  • when the opponent’s arm is twisted, the severity of the body is not fully applied;
  • weak adherence of the opponent with his hand when tilting the body to the hip.

Errors in capturing the forearm after retention:

  • loose fixation of his body to the body of the opponent;
  • improper grip of the forearm.

When using the legs for gripping, the following are considered erroneous:

  • minimal hips fixation of the opponent’s hands;
  • the attacker does not extend the opponent’s hand in full force, because he is far from him.

When taking the legs from above, the errors are:

  • not fully used leg fixation;
  • loose shoulder fixation.

Application of the shoulder lever technique

In performing this type of painful technique, Fedor Emelianenko, Paolo Filo, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira are famous in many variations. Moreover, Emelianenko twice won with shoulder leverage over Mark Coleman.
