The Oktyabrsky Electric Car Repair Plant is a key enterprise in the North-West Region in the repair, assembly, and maintenance of wagons and rolling stock of the metro, rail buses, and railway transport. Production is a structural division of Transmashholding.
Base
OEVRZ - the oldest plant in St. Petersburg (St. Petersburg). For 190 years of operation, the company changed its name three times: Alexandrovsky, Proletarsky, Oktyabrsky. His birthday is considered to be 1826, when the first ship in the Russian Empire, the Neva, was manufactured at the ironworks.
In parallel with shipbuilding, the Aleksandrovsky Plant specialized in highly artistic casting. Its experts made sculptures to decorate the facades of temples, government buildings, cultural institutions, historical monuments. With the advent of railways, the plant became the pillar of the car and steam locomotive industry.
Power of advice
After the revolution, the Alexandrovsky mechanical plant was renamed to Proletarsky. At the same time, the company profile has been preserved. Here, wagons of all types were restored and new ones were built, wheelsets were repaired, metal was smelted and machined. In 1931, the plant was renamed Oktyabrsky Car Repair. During the war, the OVRZ focused exclusively on the formation of armored trains and medical personnel, the assembly of platforms on which the guns were transported, and ammunition was manufactured.
After the war, with the development of electrification of railways, factory workers mastered the maintenance and overhaul of electric rolling stocks. The October Electric Car Repair Plant is the only enterprise where Russian high-speed trains are being repaired. In 1984, overhauls and modernization of the first ER-200 were carried out in the workshops. Production was incorporated in 1992.
Second wind
In 2005, OEVRZ OJSC became part of Transmashholding. The plant has investments, additional orders, new production areas. If in the early 2000s the company specialized in the repair of passenger cars and electric trains, in 2006 the factory workers renewed the overhaul of high-speed rolling stock ER200 Nevsky Express, designed for 200 km / h.
In 2008, a new stage for OEVRZ began - the conclusion of multi-year contracts with the subway. First, the repair of subway cars was established, and later - the assembly of rolling stock. In 2009, with the help of colleagues from Mytishchi, the first cars of the model 81-714 / 717 were built. Trains were intended for the subway of Novosibirsk.
In 2012, OJSC “Oktyabrsky Electric Car Repair Plant” won the tender for the supply of 102 cars for the St. Petersburg Metro State Unitary Enterprise in the amount of 2.6 billion rubles. The deal among the railway workers was called the "contract of the century." The success was facilitated by the fact that three years ago OEVRZ began to assemble railcars for the subways of Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk, having established itself as a reliable manufacturer.
Since 2014, overhaul of RA-series rail buses manufactured by Metrovagonmash OJSC has been carried out. The emergence of a new type of equipment in the Russian Railways fleet necessitated the development of the repair of such rolling stock by the Oktyabrsky Electric Car Repair Plant. In 2015, the first Yubileiny metro train 81-722 / 723/724 was made at OEVRZ.
Today
In 2016, OEVRZ carried out overhaul of trams for Gorelektrotrans. As part of the expansion of cooperation with the administration of St. Petersburg, specialists at the Oktyabrsky Plant began repairing equipment that was previously produced at the Leningrad Tram-Mechanical Plant.
Also mastered the production of contact-battery electric locomotives. Such electric locomotives are created in the body of ordinary metro cars and are designed to work on lines that are disconnected for one reason or another.
Recently, a new production complex was opened at OEVRZ. The development of new competencies was accompanied by large-scale work to create new workshops in which the release of modern rolling stock for rail transport can be deployed. In 2016, the work was completed.
Activities
Repair of wagons and electric trains is the main activity of the enterprise. Thanks to the efforts of the team, the second life was given to the branded teams “Rus”, “Nikolaev Express”, “Aurora”. Here, suburban trains are being upgraded to the level of increased comfort: Ladoga, Baltika, and Northern Star.
October Electric Car Repair Plant (St. Petersburg) is engaged in:
- assembly of subway cars;
- production of wheelsets;
- repair of railway and metro cars;
- repair of wheelsets;
- repair of electrical sections.
A significant amount of work falls on the production of much-needed wheelsets for railroad cars and metro trains. For these purposes, a new workshop was created in 2005. Among the clients of the St. Petersburg plant Russian Railways, there are subways in Yekaterinburg, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Novosibirsk. Cooperation with Lithuanian, Kazakh, Belarusian partners is getting stronger.
Prospects
In preparation for the World Cup, St. Petersburg factories are implementing a large-scale transport modernization program. Naturally, the largest load falls on the electric car repair plant. For the subway, original metro cars are produced that meet the most modern requirements.
In the near future, the reconstruction of the OEVRZ is planned. It is planned to concentrate production, free up inefficiently exploited areas, and equip a site for the overhaul of St. Petersburg trams. After 190 years of heroic history, the plant stands firmly on its feet and confidently looks to the future.
