Single malt Scotch whiskey is an immortal classic. A drink of real men and gentlemen, it practically became the embodiment of an entire era, since it was massively exported to the United States under dry law. Now McClelland whiskey can be bought quite legally, but that same unique taste remained. The palette of rebellion, courage, "steel and gunpowder" - so you can describe the drink, which has become a legend. Despite the impressive history and distillation according to the traditional recipe, alcohol of this brand is available at a relatively low cost. Whiskey "McClelland" more than once became the winner of several international prizes for the recipe and taste. Now it is delivered worldwide, including to the CIS.
Drink description
Single malt whiskey is a drink made from barley within the same distillery and spilled there. Unlike the blended “brother”, this drink is produced without the addition of grain distillates. This makes alcohol stronger and cheaper to produce. However, modern technologies make it possible to reveal the features of the drink so much that the single-malt counterpart has long become, if not a competitor, then a full-fledged player in the race for customer loyalty along with the “big brother”. Each manufactory seeks to preserve its own recipe and idea of taste, which is why the taste palette and the characteristics of drinks can vary significantly.
Manufacturer and Founder
Some connoisseurs are blaming McClelland for whiskey, as there is no such distillation as such. In 1886, the brand appeared in Glasgow, in Scotland. In 1970, the company and the plant were bought by Stanley Morrison, who had already managed to be noted in the alcohol business. Now the McClelland whiskey trademark is actually a sub-brand of Morrison Bowmore. However, this in no way affected the quality of the drink.
Of course, from the line of authentic drinks it is available at a relatively low price, although it exceeds the mark of $ 400, but this is dictated more by the specifics of the production, and not by the low quality. Now the division is thriving, but at the very beginning, MccLelland was engaged in the manufacture and blending of adhesive tape. The idea to supply whiskey was brought with him by Morrison, and, apparently, not in vain. Who exactly was the founder of the company is unknown.
Production specifics
McClelland whiskey is produced using double distillation technology. Masters distill in copper cubes. For aging apply barrels of English oak, incredibly strong. When assembling containers, craftsmen avoid using glue or metal rivets. Otherwise, the drink begins to adopt the flavors of additives and becomes "spoiled". Given the fact that in Scotland whiskey is called the "water of life", such an ardent desire to preserve the original bouquet of the drink becomes clear. Speaking of the latter, reviews of McClelland whiskey speak of an indescribable palette of accents and midtones of taste. This largely depends on the region of production and supply of raw materials for alcohol, the specificity of which determines the diversification of products.
Product line
The main production of the McClelland whiskey brand offers four subtypes of alcohol on the market, depending on the region from which the raw materials are supplied. The line looks like this: Highland, Spaceland, Lowland and Islay.
"Highland" is considered the most traditional brand, just such a whiskey can be found most often.
Islay . Raw materials for this line come from the island. The rarest brand. The flavoring palette of subspecies varies significantly. If the McClelland produced in the lowland of whiskey has a mild taste, then Highland gives connoisseurs a “strict”, aged drink with sharp transitions between half accents of taste. “Islay” is alcohol with its own taste, filled with hints of peat bogs and haze.
Taste palette
Whiskey “McClelland Highland” has a rich taste in which notes of iris, vanilla, honey are guessed. The aroma is dominated by smoke and light smoked, acquired from roasted oak, in which the drink is aged. The aroma is dominated by caramel and a light shade of sea salt. Whiskey "McClelland Speyside (Spaceland)" is more delicate in taste. In the region near the Spey River, raw materials absorb the flavors of the river territory. The taste is dominated by floral and soft shades of fruit, including prunes. The constant haze in this case plays a leading role and serves only as a shade in the aftertaste. Whiskey "McClelland Highland", reviews of which speak of endurance, is inferior in taste to other varieties, but remains one of the most classic variations, for which it is still valuable.
To the question of price
McClelland whiskey is called one of the most affordable among analogues. As mentioned earlier, such a pricing policy is dictated by the characteristics of production and is by no means a sign of a poor taste of alcohol. The average brand price starts at $ 350. Depending on the region of manufacture and sale, it can reach 600 dollars. Whiskey is supplied worldwide in its original packaging. Earlier on the label there was even a copy of the original drawing by Katie White, which depicted the Spaceland landscape. Now the brand remains one of the most recognizable in the world and takes almost the leading sales position.
You should always remember the threat of fakes. They often try to fake the original amber-yellow drink, passing off “honey” or similar tinctures as
good whiskey . However, this is even better than a surrogate. You should carefully inspect the bottle when buying and make sure its authenticity.
