Alexander Twardowski is a famous Soviet writer and poet. He was also the editor-in-chief of the New World magazine. The writer was born in June 1910 in the Smolensk region. Already at the age of 15 he began to write. At first, these were short notes in local newspapers. Then his literary path became wider. Unfortunately, he found times of collectivization. His relatives were sent into exile, his native farm was burned to ashes. "Vasily Terkin" is a fairly well-known work of the author. He himself called him "a book about a soldier without beginning and without end." The story fell in love with many readers. It is distinguished by its masterly syllable, dynamic plot and simplicity. This makes it pleasant, easy, but thought-provoking.
The beginning of the story
"Vasily Terkin", a brief summary of which we will consider, begins with a story about the protagonist. We meet a guy who is in an infantry company. The author says that this is the second war for Vasily (before this was Finnish). The guy is described for a long time in different colors. It becomes clear that he will not reach into his pocket for a word, he likes to eat, and he’s just a good person. Vasily recalls how he made his way to the front in a detachment of ten comrades. They made their way from the eastern "German" side. On their way they met the native village of the detachment commander, and all together went to his house. The household wife fed the fighters with a delicious stew and wished them good night. Early in the morning, the soldiers left the village, leaving him captive to the enemy. Throughout the path of Terkin, thoughts about returning and thanking a simple Russian woman did not leave.
Crossing
Vasily Terkin is the main character of the story, so the whole plot will be inextricably linked with him. Meanwhile, the guys were passing the river. Enemy fire suddenly rang out. Some of the soldiers managed to cross to the other side, and the second remained to wait for dawn. But it was winter, the river was almost frozen. Late at night, Vasily sails to the shore and reports that they can provide a crossing. Communication is established between the units, preparations are underway for the crossing. One must act quickly in order to be in time before dawn. Fire is heard, and Terkin occupies the enemy "cellar" from which it destroys the German soldier. Without understanding anything, the Allies begin to bomb on Vasily. It all ends sadly, tankers pick him up and send him to the medical battalion.

At the hospital, he undergoes lengthy treatment, but this does not upset him. Vasily Terkin - the main character with humor. Having regained consciousness, he begins to joke that he is not averse to getting a medal for his affairs and taking a good walk in the neighboring village. Having recovered completely, he decides to catch up with his own. The guys agree to give him a ride, but stagnation of transport forms on the road. Winter, severe cold ... How to entertain yourself? It turns out that the tankers have a accordion that belonged to the deceased commander. They give her something to Vasily, who draws on a sad melody. Then a funny motive follows - and the whole composition is in the dance. Having talked, the tankers recall the wounded guy, and it turns out that this was Terkin. It ends with the fact that the command accordion is given to him as gratitude.

How does our brief retelling continue? Vasily Terkin finds an old hut where he meets his grandmother and grandfather. They treat him, he repairs them various objects and leaves. One of the fighters loses his pouch, and Terkin gives him his, saying that much can be lost in the war. He also recalls that in the hospital a nurse gave him her hat, which he still has fondly kept. There is a battle in which Vasily bravely fights and defeats the enemy. Then he goes into reconnaissance and returns with a prisoner who owns important information. A.T. Twardowski ("Vasily Terkin") very skillfully conveyed the atmosphere of spring, renewal of nature, the first warm days amid war, death and despair. In the spring, Terkin successfully shot down the plane, for which he received an order. He is very glad of his merit and recalls the boy from the hospital, who at a young age was already a hero. He told Vasily that he was a “hero from Tambov.” This prompted the main character to think about his poor Smolensk region.
The soldier is given leave, but since he has been taken prisoner, he remains at the front. Later, a battle ensues for the village of Borki, from which, unfortunately, only ash remains. Soon he was sent to rest where you can eat 5 times a day and sleep a lot. A day later, he catches a ride and returns to the company, unable to withstand idleness.

Slowly moving to the finale, our brief retelling. Vasily Terkin with a platoon is going to liberate the village under the command of a conceited lieutenant who is quickly dying. His place is taken by our hero. The soldiers liberate the village, but Vasily is seriously wounded. He does not give up death, and he is found by the guys from the funeral team.
Returning after treatment, Vasily discovers that everything has changed in the company: even a new Ivan Terkin has appeared. Meanwhile, a front line ran through the village with his old men, so grandfather and woman moved to the cellar. Basil visits them, and finds out that the Germans took the watch. He promises to bring new ones from Berlin. What further prepares for us a brief retelling? Vasily Terkin learns that his village was taken by the Allies, so his soul becomes calmer. In this case, the grandmother will be captured, and Vasily contributes to her release. Soon she is at home.
