The sports complex, located on the Petrograd side near the Sportivnaya metro station and the Petrovsky stadium in St. Petersburg, is well known not only to residents of the Northern capital, but also to many guests of the city. Such athletes as Anton Sikharulidze and Elena Berezhnaya, Evgeni Plushenko, Aleksey Yagudin and Aleksey Urmanov grew up in the Yubileiny Sports Palace.
Construction history
The project of the Yubileiny Sports Palace in St. Petersburg was completed by an architectural workshop led by Yuri Mityurev. Engineers and architects decided to create a three-level building with a basement made of glass and concrete. The base was intended for technical rooms.
Construction work began in September 1967. Then the complex was previously called the Sports Palace of the Leningrad trade unions. Its construction was dedicated to the fiftieth anniversary of Soviet power. Specialists called the construction of the complex experimental, because it was here that the cable-stayed cable, the latest at that time, of the Main Arena, was first tested.
Three hundred people of various specialties were involved in construction work. They were faced with a difficult task - to erect a building within a year. The structure was reconstructed several times. The last time it was in 2000 was before the World Hockey Championship. A training skating rink and a small arena were built for this event.

Visitors reviews
Despite the fact that in 2017 the complex will be already 50 years old and during this time a lot of sports fields have appeared in the city, βYubileinyβ remains one of the most popular of them. Petersburgers and guests of the city come here with pleasure as families, because there is the opportunity to engage in your favorite sport not only for adult visitors, but also for very young people.
Of course, there are some comments addressed to the administration of the complex. For example, according to visitors' reviews, during mass skating, especially at night, you can meet not sober people in the ice arena. This is unacceptable, as they can cause personal injury.
