What is a cliff? Simple at first glance, the word. But believe me, only the first. In fact, you can talk about it for hours, the main thing is to decide on the direction, and there are at least three of them.
First value
So, what can you mean by pronouncing this letter combination? We turn to dictionaries, for example, Ozhegova. In this "word storage" you can find the following definition - high rock. But Ushakov in his dictionary gave this word a slightly different definition - a sheer cliff. So what is a cliff? In geography and geology, a cliff has a somewhat vague definition. The reason is that for a clear explanation you need to specify the exact degree of inclination of a steep rock, and in nature, not everyone can fall under a clear indicator.

The only thing that remains unified is that this high plumb / cliff is formed as a result of washing / weathering / erosion and subsequent collapse of the mountain. Most often, such cliffs appear along rivers, seas and oceans. The cliff is often confused with a slope. This is something different in appearance, but the same in essence. Slope is a subtype of cliff formed by landslides. It is believed that the word "cliff" in the Russian language was formed from the word "cramp", it had its original meaning - smooth rock.

Second value
What is cliff yet? This is the village of the same name, a wonderful place on the Crimean peninsula. It is tremulously and gently washed by two seas: Azov and Black. A symbol of eternal and pure love was erected on the territory of Kuchuk Lambata (the so-called Utes village), near Alushta. Princess Gagarin, in memory of her dead husband, built a castle in the Old German style. Only the best materials were purchased for its construction, the most famous masters were invited for complex work with Venetian glass, marble, tiles, ceramic tiles.
The castle is surrounded by an old park, and the complex included a house church and a hospital, which worked for free for local residents. At the moment, the Utes cliff sanatorium is located in the castle. Photos of buildings and surrounding areas are still fascinating. Numerous tourists go there not just to relax, but to recharge with the atmosphere of a quivering feeling - true love.

Third meaning
What is cliff in the framework of literary criticism? This is a lot. So is entitled one of the most famous poems of M.Yu. Lermontov. It seems that everyone will remember the first lines: "A golden cloud slept on the chest of a giant cliff ...." A small creation has a deep meaning, it raises the theme of unrequited love and loneliness. The meaning of the word “cliff” in this case is very arbitrary. A thin parallel between images and symbols allows readers to plunge into the depths of their own experiences and thoughts. Moreover, this parallel of images formed the basis of the poem “Romance” and “Time for the heart to be at rest”. The latter was created by Lermontov in 1841. It was highly appreciated by compatriots (Belinsky V., Gorky M.), while A.P. Chekhov's first two lines became the epigraph to the story "On the Way."
