The destroyer ship “Quick” was built at the shipyard (Shipyard) named after Zhdanov under the project 956 “Sarych”.
In October 1989, the destroyer was adopted by the Navy of the Soviet Union. Currently, it is in the reserve of the 1st category of the Pacific Fleet (Pacific Fleet), but remains an unchanged participant in all types of exercises.
For excellent performance in combat training, the crew of the destroyer was repeatedly encouraged by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy.
How did the new class of the ship - the destroyer
At the end of the 19th century, a new weapon appeared - torpedoes (self-propelled mines). This forced the military to take care of the means of dealing with them and their carriers.
Such a tool was a universal high-speed ship, called the "destroyer". His task was to patrol the country's sea borders with the aim of counteracting aviation, submarines (PL) and surface ships of the enemy.
The destroyer is able to act not only alone, but also as part of a squadron. This feature is reflected in its additional name - "squadron".
For a long time, the destroyer was the most “popular” warship in the world, but today, in times of crisis, the cost of its construction significantly affects the number of ships of this class produced. They began to build less often.
Currently, the world fleet has about two hundred destroyers. At the same time, the United States Navy has the largest number - 55 units, and also about twenty destroyers are at US shipyards.
Great Britain has lost its former glory as the mistress of the seas and has 8 ships of this class.
The Russian Navy has six destroyers, of which three ships are part of the Pacific Fleet. The crew of the destroyer "Quick" worthily represents the Russian navy in the Pacific.
Project 956 "Sarych" Navy of the USSR
The destroyers of the Sarych project were built at the Leningrad Shipyard No. 190 named after Zhdanov (today, the Severnaya Verf shipyard). It was planned to launch twenty units of warships. However, the collapse of the Soviet Union that erupted in 1992, the financial crisis disrupted the plans of the Navy and shipbuilders. As a result, the completion of the previously laid down ships ceased, new destroyers were no longer laid.
The only exceptions were orders from China. In the period from 1997 to 2000, the construction of two buildings of the project 956-E was completed by order of the Navy of China. Later, an order was made by China for the construction of two more ships, but already under the export project 956-EM.
The construction of the destroyer Bystry was also carried out under the project 956 Sarych (Sovremenny class destroyer, according to NATO classification).
"Fast" of the "Sarych" project
The destroyer Bystry is the 11th destroyer in the account of twenty ships of the Sarych project planned by the USSR Navy.
It was laid on Shipyard No. 190 named after Zhdanov at the end of October 1985 under building number 871. He left the slipways in 1987, at the end of November.
During this period, the destroyer Bystry was part of the 13th brigade of naval ships under construction and repair.
In the early fall of 1989 (August-September) passed sea trials and state tests. At the time of the test, he was listed in the 76th rocket ship brigade, based in Liepaja.
After successfully passing the test, "Quick" was adopted by the Navy under the number 676.
In the future, the number changed twice more: from 1991 to 1993 - No. 786, from 1993 to the present - No. 715).
At the end of October of the same year, the destroyer was introduced into the Navy of the Soviet Union.
The main characteristics of the destroyer
The Bystry destroyer (the 11th destroyer of Project 956 Sarych destroyer ) has a standard displacement of 6,500 tons and a total displacement of 7,904 tons. The longest and widest ships are 156.5 m and 17.2 m respectively.
The destroyer movement is provided by two GTZA-674 units with a total capacity of 100 thousand horsepower using two five-blade propellers.
GTZA-674 power units provide a maximum navigational speed of the destroyer of 33.4 knots.
The area of operation depends on its regime and the provision of energy resources, that is, running speed and fuel supply.
At maximum speed, the cruising range is 1345 miles, and when sailing in economy mode (18.4 knots), this distance is 3920 miles.
If there is fuel with an overload, the ship can reach the target located 4500 miles away from it.
The duration of the navigation of the destroyer "Fast" in standalone mode can reach 30 days.
The armament of the destroyer "Fast"
The universality of the destroyer is confirmed by its weapons.
The ship is equipped with artillery, including anti-aircraft. The artillery complex includes two twin AK-130/54 artillery mounts for 2,000 rounds, four six-barrel 30-mm AK-630 anti-aircraft gun mounts for 12,000 rounds.
The missile armament of the Bystry destroyer consists of two launchers of P-270 Mosquito anti-ship missiles and two Hurricane anti-aircraft missile systems for 48 launches.
To counter the enemy’s submarines and torpedoes, the “Quick” is equipped with two six-barrel RBU-1000 (reactive-bomb installations) “Smerch”, as well as mine-torpedo weapons.
Mine-torpedo armament of the ship is represented by two torpedo tubes with four anti-submarine electric torpedoes SET-65, caliber 533 mm. A feature of torpedoes is their ability to homing on an underwater target.
The ship also has a Ka-27 helicopter on board, used for reconnaissance purposes.
Radio-technical armament of the "Fast"
A modern ship without electronic weapons is helpless and blind. The destroyer "Quick-715" is equipped with radar stations (radar) MP-710, MP-710-1, MP-750. The range of their review is 145 km.
Radars allow you to control the air and surface conditions, while detecting even small targets.
For over-target designation (up to 200 km), the KRS-27 radar is used, which is part of the Bridge system.
In the service of the motherland
In 1989, the 175th brigade of Pacific Fleet missile ships was replenished with the destroyer Fast (project 956). Since that time, his service began on the eastern borders of the country.
In mid-June 1990, the destroyer was enlisted in readiness. In the same month, the crew of the ship for the first time became a participant in exercises in the Baltic Sea. At the end of the exercises, the ship arrived in Tallinn, where it was visited by more than a hundred foreign attaches.
September 15, "Quick" went on the return trip home to the Pacific Fleet. The transition lasted about two months.
Already in mid-December 1990, the crew of the destroyer was again in the exercises - took part in the tests of submarines in the waters of the Sea of Japan.
Summing up the results of 1990 showed that the ship is the best in combat training in terms of the use of nuclear weapons.
In the spring of 1991, the destroyer again on the exercises. This time, "Quick" defended the Pacific Fleet ships from attack by aircraft and submarines of the "enemy".
In August of the same year, "Quick" participated in joint exercises held in the Sea of Japan. The crew was monitored by observers from 8 countries.
According to the results of 1991, the crew of the "Fast" won 1st place according to the results of artillery fire among ships of the 1st rank.
In subsequent years, until December 1998, Bystry participated in rescue operations, escorting the K-500 nuclear submarine from combat duty, and official visits to China and South Korea.
In December 1998, the destroyer Bystry was transferred to the reserve of the 1st category due to the poor condition of part of the main boilers. By the way, the poor state of the boiler economy of the destroyer almost led to the death of the ship and its crew in September 2010.
For the sake of peace on the planet
In June 2013, the Fast, as part of the Oslyabya and Kalar squad, took part in the military-historical Memory Campaign dedicated to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the 282nd anniversary of the Pacific Fleet.
In May 2014, the Russian-Chinese naval interaction-2014 exercises took place, which could not be completed without the Bystry crew.
At the end of 2015, Russian-Indian exercises took place. As part of the detachment of Russian ships was the destroyer "Quick".
Merits of the crew of the "Fast"
Over the years, the destroyer "Fast" (Pacific Fleet), the photo of which is presented above, has been repeatedly noted by the Navy command as the best combat unit:
- According to the results of 1991, the Navy Commander-in-Chief was awarded a prize for excellent artillery fire at sea targets.
- In September 1996, on the occasion of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Russian fleet, the Bystry crew showed excellent preparation for missile firing. The result of the firing was the second prize of the Commander-in-Chief.
- According to the results of 2013, the destroyer won 1st place among ships of the 1st, 2nd ranks in the competition for the destruction of naval targets by missiles.
- Summing up the results of 2014 brought the “Fast” prize to the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy for the competent and effective use of weapons available on the destroyer.
