A bit of history
Zasyadko mine was commissioned in the late fifties of the last century. It is located in Donetsk, on the eponymous avenue, named after the famous statesman in Soviet times, a native of the city of Gorlovka. The design capacity of this mine in the early years of its existence was a little more than a million coal per year. But subsequently, the employees of the enterprise regularly overfulfilled production tasks, as a result of which they were awarded more than once with various prizes, including state-level awards.
As already mentioned, the famous Zasyadko mine became due to its accident rate. Although in Soviet times, the exact number of victims was not disclosed. Only information about accidents that led to numerous casualties is known. The largest Donetsk mine is considered the most dangerous, not only in the country, but also in the world. The disaster of 1999
As a result of this accident, about fifty miners died. May 24, 1999 is a tragic day in the history of Donetsk. The cause of the disaster has not been established. According to one version - this is spontaneous combustion of coal. Several heads of the Zasyadko mine lost their posts. No one was prosecuted.
For the population of Donetsk, most of which at that time was involved in the coal mining industry, this event was the most terrible of those that took place before 2000. But less than three years later, another disaster occurred.
2002 accident
On July 31, coal dust and methane exploded at a depth of more than a thousand meters. Rescuers recovered twenty bodies of miners from the ruins. Another died in the hospital. What caused the explosion? In this accident, miners who violated safety rules were found guilty.

On August 18, eighteen miners died. This time, the cable ignited. The number of victims could be greater. After all, more than a thousand people were underground at the time of the accident. About forty were in the danger zone. Fortunately, most of them managed to escape.
The accident of September 20, 2006
This disaster occurred as a result of methane emissions. Sixteen people were hospitalized. Thirteen died from suffocation. According to an unofficial version, the culprit in this accident was the production director. So, at least, miners who became eyewitnesses of the tragic event claimed. But the opinion of the miners in the press was covered very poorly. None of the leaders lost his post and, moreover, was not prosecuted.
The worst accident
In 2007, more than a hundred miners died at the Zasyadko mine. This disaster has become the largest in the history of the enterprise. It happened as a result of an explosion of a methane-air mixture. In extinguishing the fire, fire departments of not only Donetsk, but also Lugansk were involved. Three days after the accident, dead miners were recovered to the surface. The bodies of eleven miners were never found.
