Everyone knows that a more convenient mobile device for work than a laptop does not exist in the world. In fact, he combined the functionality of a stationary computer and the mobility of portable gadgets like a smartphone and tablet. True, in the last two you cannot work with technical illustrations, program code or three-dimensional text. But on a laptop you can.
The only thing that should not be forgotten is that the laptop is a specific device in terms of control. For those who just moved from a stationary PC, it will not be easy to get used to the touchpad and small keyboard. It will be especially inconvenient if you do not know how to disable the touch mouse on a laptop and use the mouse.
What is a touch mouse?
So, before talking about turning off something, you should open the question of the concept of a touchpad (or touch mouse, as this device is called in a simple way). After all, not every user who starts working with a laptop has enough information about this module.
When you first see a laptop, your eyes will see a screen located on the back of the cover, as well as the top panel of the case itself. There is a keyboard on it (the same as those that come with stationary computers), and below it is a small rectangular box, highlighted with a frame or color. This is the touchpad. It is about him that we will talk, and more specifically, about how to disable the touch mouse on a laptop.
Using this square field, the user can control the computer in the same way as he would with a normal mouse. Under the touchpad field there are even keys that mimic the left and right petals of a portable mouse. That is, we can say that the entire volume of operations that a normal mouse performs is available when working with the touch field.
Touchpad operation specifics
True, not everything is so simple. The question of how to disable the touch mouse on a laptop is asked by those who buy a physical mouse and refuse to control using a square field. And the problem arises when a person tries to type text and constantly touches the touch mouse, while knocking down the cursor. Believe me, if this happens during operation, it can cause a lot of inconvenience.
On the other hand, the user can be able to work with a touch mouse, and do it confidently. Just the need to know how to disable the touch mouse on a laptop for a short time, you need, for example, when watching a movie (so that, again, not to touch this field by accident) or conducting a presentation. In general, in fact, there are a lot of situations where this knowledge can be useful. Therefore, we consider several options for disabling the touchpad for different models of laptops.
Hotkey Disable
So, let's start with the most common way. It is also the simplest (although it is impossible to say that the other options are somehow complicated). With this information, you will know how to disable the touch mouse on a Lenovo laptop (and not only) by pressing two keys. These are the so-called Hotkeys - operational buttons that can be used to give commands to the laptop and perform certain actions in seconds.
On each device (in Lenovo - in the lower corner of the keyboard, and in other laptops it can be located near the F1-F12 keys) there is a special button, signed as Fn. In addition, on the buttons themselves, which are designated as F1-F12, there are other icons. Having looked closely, you will see backlighting symbols, Wi-Fi, keys for the player’s navigation and others. There is also a symbol for the touchpad (with a rectangle, two sections at the bottom and a line that crosses it all out). These are hot keys, and it’s easy if you don’t know how to disable the touch mouse on your HP laptop (and most others). By simultaneously pressing the touchpad symbol and the Fn button, you turn off the touch mouse.
Turn off the touchpad with the button
In some computer models, in addition to the Hotkeys buttons, a special key is also located in the touchpad area, which is responsible for the operation of the touch mouse. If you don’t know how to use the hotkey combination and don’t know how to disable the touch mouse on a Dell laptop, and such a button is present in your model, you can safely use it. All you need to do is click and wait for the notification that the touchpad is turned on. Disabling the touchpad, by the way, is done in the same way.
BIOS shutdown
The two options described above should be enough to deactivate the integrated control panel in your laptop. True, situations may arise when they do not work. For example, this can happen when the operating system is reinstalled, and the drivers responsible for the operation of the touchpad and hot keys will not be loaded. We’ll write about how to disable the touch mouse on a Sony Vaio laptop (even though the same instructions apply to other models).
So, for this method, we need to go into the BIOS menu. You can do this after restarting the computer. You must press the exit key to this menu (for different models, these are different buttons, most often Del, F2 or F12). After clicking on the screen, a menu with various tabs and sub-items will appear. All you need to do is go to the Pointing Device (meaning the touch pointer) and select its operating mode - On or Off (“on” or “off”). Next, click the Save and Exit button (most likely, this is the F10 key).
After you leave the BIOS menu, your laptop will restart successfully.
How to organize the touchpad correctly?
Of course, the last way to turn on the touch panel on a computer is extremely complicated and inconvenient for the reason that it involves rebooting the laptop and accessing the BIOS menu unfamiliar to most users. Agree, it is much easier to press one or two buttons (according to the schemes described above). However, to configure the device in this way, you must install the appropriate driver. This is the software that will be responsible for responding to commands coming from the modules (in our case, this is the touchpad and the hotkey driver).
In general, in order not to constantly switch the operation mode of your touch panel, you can simply properly configure its work. For example, if you constantly use it and have already become accustomed to the lack of a physical mouse, then the touchpad that is always on will not cause discomfort (except, of course, the situations described above). If we are talking about working with a mouse, then you definitely do not need a touch panel, and you can turn it off.
