It's no secret that the quality of gasoline sold in Russia leaves much to be desired. Petrol stations do not always provide true information to the client about the fuel sold, as a result of which the vehicle is damaged. Sometimes at a gas station they sell gasoline with an artificially high octane rating. This is achieved by adding special additives. How to determine which gasoline was poured into the car? Appointment of the device
The decision in this matter will be the availability of a specialized device "Octis-2" for the car owner. The device can, unlike other analogs, measure the octane index of gasoline directly when pouring into the tank of a vehicle at a gas station. This is a very convenient action when, with paid AI-95 fuel, the device gives, for example, indications equal to 89.1. The engine will start on such gasoline, but the negative impact will definitely affect its performance.
In generally accepted standards, the permissible error of the octane number of fuel can be considered within plus / minus 1.5 units from that offered at gas stations. Having in constant use a device for measuring the octane number of gasoline and checking it, you can easily verify the quality or absence thereof.
"Octis-2" is designed to determine the octane index of automotive fuel of such brands as:
AI - 80.
AI - 92.
AI - 95.
AI - 98.
The functional feature of the device allows the device to operate in two modes:
1. Flowing - metering is made while filling gasoline in the tank.
2. Immersion mode - the device is placed in a separate container filled with a sufficient amount of the measured liquid.
Technical details
The manufacturer specifically notes that the device works as an indicator. Informs the person concerned about the initial, preliminary data on the quality of gasoline. In Russia, where the manufacturer is located, the device is not intended as an argument in conflict and controversial situations regarding the quality of fuel sold at gas stations.
"Octis-2" determines the octane index in the spectrum from 75 to 99.9 units. The required minimum volume of liquid for measuring in flowing mode should be from 5 to 10 liters, and for immersion mode, 80 ml will be sufficient. When turned on, no more than 15 seconds should pass for the normal operation of the device. The device is powered by two "AA" batteries with a total voltage of 3 V. The current that is consumed from these batteries should not exceed more than 80 mA.
The device, at the request of the manufacturer, must be operated at an ambient temperature of not less than + 5 โ and not more than + 40 ยฐ C. Humidity should be from 30 to 80% at a temperature of 30 โ. The temperature of the tested fluid should not exceed +40 โ. The mass of the device for measuring the octane number of gasoline does not exceed 360 grams.
Safety operation
All operations using the Octis-2 device must be carried out in open air or in buildings with a powerful ventilation system and maximally ventilated.
It is strictly forbidden when working with the device:
ยท Combine use with a measuring device of other sources of electrical power;
ยท Replacement of batteries for internal use during the measurement of octane performance, when there is direct contact "Octis-2" with gasoline;
ยท Use a device for measuring octane number near an open flame.
It is recommended to install or replace internal batteries only with the Oktis-2 device start button turned off.
After completing the measurement procedures, you need to shake the device in order to release the sensitive unit in the measuring part from gasoline residues and put it back into the special case supplied.
It is strongly not recommended to use acetone and other similar solvent liquids when cleaning the measuring element in the device.
The device device "Octis-2"
The device for measuring the octane number of gasoline is a single whole mechanism, which includes three working main elements:
1. Block with electric filling.
2. The transition block.
3. Measuring tube with sensitive assembly.
The three elements are interconnected in such a way that the unit with electric filling is fastened to the transition compartment, which has o-rings. A measuring tube is mounted directly in the adapter block, at the end of which there is a sensitive node.
The adapter block has a lid and, together with the tube, forms a flow channel passing through the fuel. The electronic unit has a scoreboard with numbers to reflect the octane rating and contains a compartment for accommodating batteries.
When fuel enters a sensitive site, the element data changes, the electronics begin to compare with the indicators available in the memory of the electrical unit. As a result, the digital display reflects readings that correspond to the octane level of gasoline.
Switching on the Octis-2 gasoline testing device by pressing the ON / OFF button all the way. Repeated manipulation of the button will turn off the device.
Preparing for operation
For the functioning of the device to work, some preparatory steps are necessary.
1. Make sure that the device is turned off by visually inspecting the power button. This unit must be in the off position.
2. Open the cover covering the neck of the adapter block.
3. Place "AA" batteries (2 pieces) in the battery compartment, and the polarity of the installation must be strictly observed.
4. Replace the battery holding plate in place, tighten the screws.
5. Move the ON / OFF button to the on position.
If the preparation is carried out correctly, the digital display will light up, the scan will be in the form of a flickering line and three digits will appear - "00.0". This notification will signal that the device is ready for operation.
Flow mode
In this function, for successful operation, it is necessary to place the refueling "gun" in the adapter block until it stops. Insert the device into the neck of the gas tank and start refueling the car. After a while, the digital display will show the octane reading of gasoline. The testimony should be taken after the first appeared. Upon completion of refueling or measurement, stop the fuel supply, turn off the Octis-2 device using the ON / OFF button. Disconnect device, remove gasoline residue, pack.
Dive mode
In this mode, you will need to insert a device for measuring the octane number of gasoline in a container with a measured liquid. The position should be vertical or slightly inclined, but so that the fuel reaches the special mark drawn on the measuring tube. The following steps are identical to the flow mode.
Faults and storage
When you turn on the device, an error may appear on the digital counter of the device in the form of an immovable string. This is due to contamination of the measuring unit. Dust, water, metal grains could get on the element when the refueling "gun" is constantly inserted, or any other foreign objects. Rinse contaminated areas with gasoline. The cleaning process must be carried out with the device turned off, lowering it into the specified liquid deeper than the drawn mark. Given how much gasoline costs, the device is very useful for motorists who care about their "iron horse" and personal financial well-being.
Store "Octis-2" should be in the supplied case. Do not expose the device to heat from sunlight. Keep away from dust.
