Airguns are usually associated with pistols and rifles. Few people know, but there are also gas shotguns. Today we will discuss precisely this type of weapon, namely, the Walther SG9000 model from the famous weapons company Umarex. This is to some extent a unique product, because it is almost the only one of its kind.
Overview
In appearance, gas weapons usually copy (as much as possible) gunshot models. The Umarex SG9000 air shotgun did not become a copy of any particular combat rifle, however, all the distinguishing features of this class are present in it. Belonging to a gas weapon gives out a light (about 1 kilogram) model body and plastic coating.
The shotgun is pneumatic, but not the usual 12-gram cans of air, but more capacious ones - 88-gram cans act as an energy source. One such charge is enough to carry out from 800 to 1000 shots. You can shoot in single or triple mode. In the first case, the charge velocity at the departure will be 150 m / s, and in the second, it will be half as much.
Accuracy
There are no stationary sighting elements on the weapon, but there is a Vivera bar that allows the owner to independently install any kind of sight. Three more of these straps are installed on the removable lid of the balloon compartment. The magazine for 40 bullets in the model is presented in the form of a special compartment, which is located on the right side of the case.
For a budget gas weapon, the pneumatic shotgun Umarex SG9000 has decent power. For example, for most gas pistols of this price category, the bullet velocity at the exit from the barrel is up to 120 m / s. Shotgun can be effectively applied at a distance of up to 15 meters. If you move away from the target by 20-25 m, the accuracy of the "fire" will drop sharply. From this distance you can only shoot at dimensional targets such as buckets. But from 10 meters with the right skills, you can shoot accurately at matchboxes. From this distance, a shotgun bullet pierces a tin can and breaks a glass bottle.
Device
The body of the product consists of two parts and is made of plastic. At the same time, the Vivera bar and the barrel are made of metal, and inside the handle there is a weighting compound. For the convenience of grip, the handle has notches on both sides. The same notches are on the forend, which, unlike real shotguns, is motionless. The total length of the rifle is 570 mm, and the barrel is 280 mm. The weapon fires standard metal balls with a diameter of 4.5 mm. Its power is about 3 J. Due to the small range, it is not advisable to put an expensive optical sight on the model, it will be simple enough with a magnification of up to 4.
There is a fuse regulator on the right side of the case. It is a three-position switch. The leftmost position is a fuse, the middle one is a single shot, the rightmost one is a turn. On the same side is the store. Charging is carried out directly inward, without removing the container. To do this, pull the appropriate lever and put it on the stopper.
The gas section is located under the barrel, near the forearm. By removing the cover, you can open access to it. The cylinder is inserted into the hole and screwed into the thread. On the lid are three slats of "Vivera".
Principle of operation
The shot is due to energy, the source of which is a cylinder of compressed air. Before installation in a rifle, it is absolutely airtight. And when placed on the workplace and twisting the balloon is pierced. From the leakage of air into the environment, the valve closes it. When you press the trigger release valve opens and air under pressure exits through the barrel, thereby pushing the bullet.
Thus, this device is called a shotgun only in appearance and the ability to shoot three bullets at a time.
Disassembly
The pneumatic shotgun is disassembled in several stages:
- First, the gas cylinder compartment cover is removed and the cylinder is removed (if it was, of course, installed).
- Bolts are untwisted on the right side of the case.
- The plug is removed from the fuse switch.
- The screw that was hidden under the plug is loosened.
- The case is disconnected into two halves.
Destination
Obviously, the model is designed for training and recreational shooting from short distances. Like any other pneumatic weapon, a shotgun is not suitable for self-defense due to lack of power. It is impossible to cause serious harm with such a rifle, unless unless caught in the eye.
Pneumatic shotgun Umarex SG9000: reviews
Based on the feedback from the owners, we highlight the main pros and cons of the model. The pneumatic shotgun Umarex SG9000, which we are reviewing today, has the following advantages:
- Low price (relatively, of course). A model costs about $ 100.
- High speed bullet flight.
- Large cylinder capacity. No need to think about gas running out soon. If desired, you can put the adapter on two familiar 12-gram spray cans.
- Ability to fire single and triple charges.
- Trims "Vivera", allowing you to equip the product with additional equipment (sight, flashlight, second handle, etc.).
Unfortunately, there are no flaws:
- Small store volume. This problem is especially acute when shooting with triple charges. A gas bottle, which lasts at least 800 rounds, and a magazine with only 40 bullets is not the most successful tandem.
- Not very good quality plastic. The internal parts are made of metal, and the build quality, by the way, is pretty solid. But a good body would not be superfluous either. Moreover, cheap plastic from a distance of several meters produces pneumatic weapons.
- Lack of sights. To put a pneumatic Umarex sight on a shotgun, you must first buy it.
- Tight trigger.
As for light weight, it can be attributed to both pluses and minuses. On the one hand, light weapons are easier to transport and operate (shooting with one hand is quite real). On the other hand, itโs immediately obvious by weight that a copy is in the hands. In general, the second argument is quite controversial. Judge for yourself, when was the last time you saw a man with a real combat shotgun?
Homemade pneumatic shotgun
You can make something similar to a pneumatic gun at home. Now we will briefly discuss how to make a pneumatic shotgun. To make a simple gun, you need to cook:
- A receiver is a vessel for storing gas.
- Two tubes. One has a length of about 15-20 cm, and the second is 60-80 cm.
- Shotgun handle.
- Water tap.
- Aim.
- Metal plate up to 15 cm long.
The manufacturing process is quite simple. First you need to weld a short tube to the receiver at an angle of about 30 degrees. The connection must be tight. The tube plays the role of a muzzle, and the receiver is located in place of the butt. Then a handle is welded from below, and a metal plate that imitates the โViveraโ bar above. On this welding work is completed. Next, a sight is attached to the plate, and a water tap is screwed to the barrel, which will serve as a trigger. Previously, in a short tube, you need to make an external thread, and in a long one, an internal thread. Or vice versa, it does not matter. Accordingly, their diameter should correspond to the crane.
When the faucet is installed in place, you need to open it, pump air into the device using a pump or compressor, and close it. Now the barrel is screwed into which shells are inserted. To shoot, you need to aim and open the tap with your finger. That's all. You can shoot single bullets or shot. If desired, the rifle can be improved depending on your imagination and needs.
Conclusion
In general, this product causes conflicting emotions. It looks interesting and shoots quite powerfully, but you can only call it a shotgun based on appearance. A serious drawback for many users will be the small capacity of the store. Although there are pistols in which it is many times smaller. For example, the pneumatic version of the PM store contains less than 20 bullets, and they need to be inserted into a narrow groove, preloaded by a spring. Here you just need to pour bullets into the weapon body - and thatโs all. In general, this shotgun is suitable for lovers of weapons of this shape.
