Memory processes

Man to this day is one of the most unknown phenomena to the end. Scientists make grandiose discoveries in which human psychology is revealed in detail. Memory, as one of the functional features of brain activity, is still unsolved. A variety of hypotheses are created, various experiments are conducted, various guesses are built, but a concrete and clear definition of why human memories are so selective, how they arise and are therefore lost, has not yet been deduced.

For example, the fact of long-term childhood memories, especially those that carry negative feelings, is quite interesting. Why is man so "vindictive"? Why is the good forgotten rather than the bad? It is assumed that the processes of memory in human psychology play a huge role, primarily because it contributes to the development of a survival mechanism.

Childhood is a period when behavior, the worldview of a person, his character and habits are formed. That’s why it’s so vivid and so long that cute youthful and infantile memories are kept. After all, it was at this time that everything happened for the first time, in the future all the events one way or another, but they are repetitions or interpretations of the once held place to be in the fate of the individual. Why then overwhelm the brain with such unnecessary information? And memory selectively leaves only the first, most significant sensations and events, when it received more powerful impressions.

It is customary for psychologists to subdivide memory processes into three categories: directly remembering and coding, linking event fragments with some specific features that distinguish them from the general format, and reproduction of information.

The stage of memorization occurs both in the form of voluntary memorization, as well as intentional. And if intentional memorization is required to learn what children do in children's institutions, then voluntary memorization occurs without the participation of the person himself and his will. How often I would like to forget something forever, to erase unpleasant, bitter moments of life from the “files” of my brain! But there it was: painful memories do not want to leave my head.

Scientists are constantly developing ways of psychological impact on the processes of memory, in order to be able to remove voluntarily destroying human nervous system memories. It is quite difficult to learn how to selectively remove supposedly unnecessary information from the human brain, much more difficult than being able to “load” this information into it. Methods of a 100% impact on these memory processes have not yet been invented.

So why does a mature woman who already has grandchildren remember the stupid case when she, as a girl, forgot some intimate little thing in the school locker room, and then the boys hung it out for everyone to see? It turns out, because this incident caused unpleasant emotions in the girl’s mind, and the memory, so that this would not happen again, firmly captured this event in its corners.

Of course, later episodes also occurred when other things were forgotten in other places, but they were hardly remembered. Oh no! Here is another case: a wallet with public money was lost. The woman even thought about committing suicide. Then her neighbor helped out by lending money for a long time.

This case will also be remembered for a long time because the impressions were extremely strong. However, in old age it is quite possible that a later event, although it was much more important, will go away from memory, leaving only childhood memories as vivid and exciting.

Another grandmother will sit down and let's tell fables from her childhood! It seemed to be this, but did the old woman tell it yesterday as if in a different way? And here psychologists find an explanation.

The memory processes responsible for archiving and preserving memories are divided into dynamic and static. Dynamic are those that a person uses quite often, because they almost always remain unchanged. But the static ones, which are in long-term storage and rarely “are taken into the light of God,” are necessarily reconstructed, processed.

Understanding all this, a smart young man will not become angry with an elderly man for not remembering yesterday’s event, but will tell you in detail about a case half a century ago. Yes, and will lie at the same time! Such is the structure of the mechanism of human memory. This is not worth fighting, it just needs to be taken as a fact.
