Description
Novocherkassk electrode plant is located in the capital of the Don Cossacks - the city of Novocherkassk, thirty kilometers from the large regional center of Rostov-on-Don. It produces about 50% of graphite electrodes in the country for the smelting of steels and alloys in arc steelmaking, ore-thermal and other electric furnaces, as well as the anode mass required to produce aluminum.

Historical reference
The work of the Novocherkassk Electrode Plant began in 1954 with the launch of a mixing and press workshop. The first product was the anode mass used for the smelting (electrolysis) of aluminum. A year later, a graphitization workshop was launched with an annual volume of 20,000 tons of graphitized electrodes.
1960-1980 years, the NEZ systematically developed. Alternately, new sections and departments were commissioned:

On December 13, 2017, an explosion occurred at the Novocherkassk electrode plant. During the repair of a graphitization furnace due to the negligence of one of the employees, a “breakdown of the torch" occurred (emission of a flame). Two workers were injured.
Development
Improving the technology, the plant’s specialists, together with industry institutes, developed new types of antifriction materials of the HIMANIT and NIGRAN brands. Products from them are used in friction units with various counter bodies in aggressive and non-aggressive environments.
NEZ expands its sales market abroad. Among the consumers are firms from England, Germany, the USA, Hungary, Poland, Italy, China, Romania, Bulgaria and other countries.
Electrode products
Novocherkassk Electrode Plant produces:
- Graphite electrodes of grades EGPS, EG, EGS, EGP. Used in the production of steel, ferroalloys, etc.
- Graphite anodes (chemical production).

It is used for processes of heat and mass transfer, absorption, desorption, rectification and supply of chemically aggressive environments. It:

- Shell and tube heater.

Structural carbon materials
This product group includes:
- Shaped products made of artificial graphite impregnated with synthetic resins (crucibles, heaters, screens, boats, etc.).
- Contact coal inserts for current collectors. Designed for removing current from the contact wire in trolley buses, electric locomotives.
- Earthing switch based on electrodes of graphite-plastic tubular grades (EGT). They are used as anode grounding conductors in cathodic protection systems of underground metal structures and structures.
