When you discover abandoned aircraft, although this is a rare occurrence, you are overwhelmed with a sense of delight and unbridled interest. How did he end up here? Was he abandoned intentionally or does he have a heroic, and possibly tragic story? The old technology, which remained rusty away from landfills, illustrates the era of the development of engineering: how something new displaces the old model of technology. And according to this model of an abandoned aircraft, we can conclude how long it has been in the place of its burial.
The largest abandoned aircraft base in the world
There are many places in the world where you can find abandoned aircraft, but only one corner of the globe has become famous for a huge number of aircraft that will never fly up to the sky.
USA, Arizona, Tucson, the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Repair Group is the official name for the cemetery of all aircraft that have ever served an aerial piloting in America.
This is the largest official burial place of old aircraft, its territory is unthinkable in area - more than 10,000 square kilometers. It is worth saying that it is impossible to get there without official permission, the territory is protected by the military.
But next to the base is the museum of aircraft, where tours are conducted under the supervision of specialists.
History of the American Aircraft Cemetery
This place was not chosen by chance. After World War II, the empty Davis-Monten air base remained. Low humidity and a sufficient elevation above sea level allowed the aircraft to be directly in the open air, without worrying about the corrosion of metal and equipment casings.
The Davis-Monten base itself was founded in 1925 and named after the heroes of Samuel Davis and Oscar Monten. After 15 years, the base expanded and the preparation of bomber aircraft began here.
There are more than 4200 units of abandoned aircraft and fifty space technology. More than 80% of the total number of vehicles that have found their last refuge here will never again be in the sky. But among them there are those representatives who, if necessary, can again return to the military piloting system.
This is especially true for important spare parts that can be reused: engines, ammunition, wiring, electronics, equipment and more.
In 2005, experts managed to process spare parts in the amount of more than 19,000 units, which was estimated at more than 568 million US dollars. For this reason, the US deployment of used equipment is strategically and economically important for the state.
Mysterious find in Bali
Around the abandoned aircraft in Bali, conversations and rumors still do not cease. The fact is that no expert can give an exact answer when and for what reason the Boeing 737 was not far from Pandava beach. It does not have any emblems owned by the airline, and there are no side numbers of the aircraft.
The aircraft flaunts in an open area and is a local "celebrity" where tourists flock for an additional fee.
The only thing that can be heard from local residents is that a certain owner of this abandoned aircraft once planned to turn it into a restaurant to attract tourists. But something went wrong, his business was never able to become a reality.
Now this Boeing is located in a private area behind the fence and is guarded.
How the plane became home to an American senior citizen
The American pensioner Bruce Campbell became famous for his unusual find and the subsequent result of his "treasure". The fact is that he converted an abandoned plane in the woods (outside the city of Portland) into a living room. Campbell thoroughly approached the issue of remaking an airplane into a private house.
In his unusual home, he led LED lighting, laid a flooring made of transparent material, installed a ladder, a shower and carried out other repairs for a comfortable pastime in the Boeing 727.
The financial cost of re-equipping the airplane house was over $ 200,000, and it took 10 years of life.
Mr. Campbell now has plans to build another house from the Boeing 747, which is also abandoned and located in Japan.
Cemetery of the Kazan airfield
Abandoned aircraft can also be found in Kazan. They are located next to the current airport. Not so long ago, local youth chose this place of burial of old equipment, filming in detail video and photo reports about their stay in this place. All this was published on social networks, luring more and more people to this airplane cemetery.
Due to the sharp interest in the abandoned part of the airfield, the local authorities decided to fence the equipment from uninvited guests with a fence and a warning sign. The reason for this was the fact that penetrating into the cockpits and on board the aircraft, the visitor may be in danger of collapse of any parts of the vessel. And since this is not an authorized place, no one can come to the rescue. For safety reasons, the cemetery of the Kazan airfield was closed to visitors, and being there is now illegal.
Ukrainian burial of military equipment
Tourists traveling in Ukraine found abandoned aircraft of the Soviet era. They are neatly arranged in rows and sorted by model. Here you can find the legendary models of Soviet aircraft. Aircraft extends to the horizon and stands in several rows. Everything is in good condition and whole. An abandoned airfield looks well-groomed, and it is not guarded by anyone.
You can approach the aircraft, come into contact with an entire era and dream up on the history of each representative in this amazing place. The runways are also solid, you can ride a car and experience enthusiastic feelings from what you see.
But further from the base of the abandoned equipment there is a batch of L-29 in excellent condition, surrounded by a fence. It is worth noting that there are no runways near the planes, that is, they have nowhere to take off from. Whether there is protection there or not - the tourists did not begin to find out.
