Biography

Ramil Guliyev, an Azerbaijani by nationality, was born in Baku 05/29/1990. His father was an athlete, so it is not surprising that his son also became interested in running. Although this did not happen right away: at first the boy visited the football section, but the coach, noting he had good speed indicators, offered to try himself in athletics.

Ramil Guliyev won the first running competition, and then won again and again. Over time, mentors began to send him to international starts. In 2007, at the age of seventeen, the athlete became the silver medal winner in the 200-meter competition at the junior world championship, held in the Czech Island. In the same year, he won one hundred and two hundred meters at the European Olympic Youth Festival in Belgrade.

In 2008, Ramil Guliyev took part in the Beijing Olympic Games, where he took fifth place in the two hundred meters. After this event, the athlete realized that athletics is indeed his calling. In 2010, a tragedy occurred in the life of Ramil Guliyev - his father died from a heart attack, who was also an athlete’s trainer. In the same year, the runner was injured and was forced to refuse to participate in the European Championship in Barcelona.

In 2011, Ramil Elbrusovich Guliyev received Turkish citizenship and began to speak for Turkey. According to the athlete, he left Azerbaijan, because the athletics federation did not help him with training and did not pay a scholarship.

In addition, the athlete underwent surgery on the Achilles tendons, after which he was recovering hard and could not train at full strength.

In 2015, Ramil Guliyev won two bronze medals at the World Universiade in the Korean city of Gwangju. In 2016, at the European Championship, held in the Netherlands, he became the second in the two-hundred-meter competition. This gave him the right to participate in the Olympics in Rio. In the semifinal Olympic race for two hundred meters, the athlete finished fourth and went to the finals, but in the decisive start he took the last eighth place.

In 2017, Ramil Guliyev became the champion in the hundred and two hundred meters at the Islamic Solidarity Games held in Baku. In the same year, the athlete won the two hundred meters at the world championship in London. He became the first Azerbaijani and the first athlete in Turkey to manage to become a world champion. The runner celebrated his victory immediately under two flags, and after the competition he was congratulated by both the Turkish leader R. Erdogan and the President of Azerbaijan I. Aliyev.

In 2018, the athlete went to Berlin for the European Championship and won again at a distance of two hundred meters, having run in 19.76 seconds. Thus, the runner added the title of European champion to his piggy bank. Ramil Guliyev set a new record for the tournament and updated his own best result. In addition, as part of the team, he won another “gold” of the championship in the relay 4x100 meters.

Now the young man lives in Turkey, where he moved his mother. In April 2018, Ramil married a girl named Margarita Dugina, also a track and field athlete in the past. The couple got married in Istanbul.
