The word "pulp" is a concept that is ambiguous. It applies to different objects, and also denotes two states of one product. In the most commonly used meaning, this noun also has several synonyms, which upon closer examination are not. However, such subtleties are clear only to professionals and those who wanted to understand this issue.
Mash is an integral part of the winemaking process.
The most common use of the word "pulp" is used to refer to raw materials in the manufacture of wine and the waste of this process. More often it is grape, but since other berries and fruits are also used to make such drinks, the pulp can be apple, rowan, cranberry, etc. The pulp in this case means the initial product and waste.
In the first meaning, it means a mixture of pulp, peel, juice, seeds, sometimes even plant twigs (in the case of grapes). With the fermentation of such a substance, the process of winemaking begins.
In the second case, the pulp is the mass that remains after the separation of must, or grape must, which is unlit juice in the initial stage of fermentation.
What else remains
In addition to wine production, the squeezing of plant materials is the basis for the production of oils.
Summarizing, we can say that the pulp is chopped grains, and berries, and vegetables. Therefore, it can be hemp, grape, potato, beet, corn, etc. In any case, the mass will be soft, loose, crushed or grated.
Where is the pulp near the tree
Pulp means part of a tree trunk. This is the name of the layer of wood that is located between its core and bark. In some data translations, the word denotes the outer layer in principle. It would be more correct to say that the pulp is also part of the bark, but only its soft layer, not visible from the outside, has not yet hardened.
A synonym for the word "pulp" in this case is "sapwood." The concept applies to the mucous membrane of a tree, especially in relation to pine.
What do pulp, oilcake, meal, bard, pulp and zest have in common?
In short - all these are by-products of squeezing plant materials for the production of various food products. Most of them are used as livestock feed or feed additives. They are distinguished by the plant from which the extraction is made and by the technology of its implementation.
Cake is called what remains after the rental of primary raw materials through the press shafts. The plant does not crush. Also such are oilseeds after processing them with a press. With such processing, the raw materials are not crushed.
In the case when the seeds are crushed and organic solvents are used to obtain vegetable oils, the process waste is called meal. This term also refers to dry shells (sunflower, rapeseed, etc.).
If the seeds were crushed to obtain oil, and the core and shell make up the waste, then the word pulp is applied to it. In the production of sugar from beets, such is the remainder in the form of dried shavings of the root crop. When squeezing citrus fruits, the zest remains.
With a stretch, you can also mention barda here (emphasis falls on the last syllable). This is a waste from the production of ethyl alcohol and other sugar beet by-products. The distinction of bards from the previous mentioned residues in its consistency. Initially, it is a suspension, however, for further use in cattle breeding, additional processing of raw materials is carried out in order to extract excess fluid.
Modern technologies allow the use of pulp from starchy crops (potatoes, wheat, corn) and other above-mentioned production wastes not only for animal feed, but also for biogas production.
