How to connect a laptop to a computer using a network cable

The cost of computing is constantly decreasing. If earlier, in order to buy accessories, you had to discuss your desire with a family council, given the affordable budget, now you can increase the memory size or replace the video card with a more productive model, by “accidentally” going to the electronics store to “just see” what technical innovations have appeared.

The fact that every second family has a home personal computer does not surprise anyone. Usually, with its help, schoolchildren perform homework and play computer games, also wired Internet is connected to it. The large diagonal of the monitor screen is one of the undeniable advantages. The disadvantage of a stationary computer system is no less obvious - this is cumbersome. Besides the fact that it is impossible to take it with you on the road, a place in the room for a special table is also required.

In parallel with personal computers, their mobile counterparts always existed - laptops, compact and neat. But only entrepreneurs and wealthy people could afford to buy a laptop. Recently, everything has changed: over the past few years, the price has dropped several times, so often in homes you can find both a computer and a laptop. At the same time, the question “how to connect a laptop to a computer” has become particularly relevant. Moreover, such an opportunity is provided by the developers. Connecting a laptop to a computer allows you to easily and quickly rewrite files, play multiplayer games without a global network, organize access to the Internet from two computers at the same time, and much more.

There are two main ways to connect a laptop to a computer: wired and wireless. Connecting using a network cable requires an Ethernet card in the laptop and computer, fortunately, they cost a penny and only a lazy manufacturer does not integrate them into their products. In modern models, the corresponding connectors look like telephone, but a bit oversized. To understand how to connect a laptop to a computer, there is no need to read complex instructions, because in the Windows operating systems that are most widely used, everything is simplified as much as possible.

How to connect a laptop to a computer? You need to perform certain actions:

- purchase a network cable (twisted pair) of the required length from the nearest computer store with connectors installed on both ends. For the standard 100 Megabits, the length can be up to 100 m inclusive;

- install a driver for each network card;

- connect the corresponding connectors with a network cable.

To determine how to connect a laptop to a computer, you need to know for what purpose the connection is made. In this example, consider a popular option with a home laptop and computer. Both the first and second, you must open access to folders and files. To do this, on the desired folder (you can "share" the entire disk at once), press the right mouse button and enable sharing in the options menu. For Vista and Win 7, you will need to additionally confirm the display of folders and work with them in the Network and Sharing Center (section "Advanced Settings"). In the properties of the computer, we change the name of the workgroup so that it is the same on both devices - this will simplify the scan. In the “network adapters” menu of the device manager, we set the full duplex to 100 megabits, this will increase reliability when connecting different standards (for example, 100 Mbit and 1 Gbit). A reboot may be required. After loading the operating systems, you need to wait about 20 seconds - during this time the adapters will automatically configure and the network will be configured. Next, open “My Computer” and click on “Network” (Network Places). If everything is correct, then the available resources of both computers will be displayed. Important: sometimes antiviruses (NOD32), for security reasons, block the display, in this case, you must first configure them.
