Monument to the memory of miners
It is difficult to imagine the main city of Kuzbass without monuments to miners. Kemerovo is the coal capital of the region. That is why a monument dedicated to representatives of this industry appeared in the city. The author of the monument is Ernst Unknown.
The history of the monument is remarkable. They wanted to note the importance of the work of the miners for a long time. This issue was first discussed in 1969 by the Council of Ministers. The name of the monument was already invented, and sketches were ready. But it was not possible to carry out the plan. The situation changed only after several decades. Then the governor of the region, Aman Tuleyev, first met with the Unknown, whose works have already been installed not only in the Russian Federation, but also in ten other countries of the world.
Initially, the monument was conceived as a mournful reminder of the miners who died in the mines of Kuzbass. But Ernst the Unknown defined the theme of the work a little differently. He said that the main idea that the composition carries in itself is resistance and heroism. After all, it is selfless labor, equivalent to military labor, that distinguishes miners from specialists in other industries.
The opening of the monument took place in 2003 right on the day of the miner - August 28. The installation site was chosen by the author. Ernst decided that the best place for his creation is Red Hill. By the way, the sculptor came to Kemerovo from New York to take part in the opening ceremony.
Warrior Glory Memorial
Not only miners, but also Soviet soldiers are glorified in Kuzbass. There is a monument in Kemerovo dedicated to the soldiers who fell in the battles for their homeland in the Second World War. It was opened on Victory Day in 1970. The architect Andrei Nikolaevich Kovalchuk and the sculptor Alexander Dmitrievich Shcherbakov worked on the project. The height of the monument is 18 meters. It is made of Crimean limestone. And the curbs and steps are made of gray granite.
The place for the installation of the monumental composition was the beginning of Spring Street. Pritomskaya Embankment is a favorite place of Kemerovo citizens for walking. Therefore, it was here that the monument was placed. He is a warrior in a helmet and an overcoat holding a banner, and a young soldier with a machine gun in his hands. In front of the monument is a star in which the Eternal Flame burns.

Guests of the city on the forecourt are greeted by a monument-engine. It was installed in 2006 in honor of the Day of the railwayman. A steam locomotive, launched back in 1953, came to its place of eternal parking under its own power. Previously, he was at Topki station.

Monument to Mikhailo Volkov

When the sculptor Georgy Baranov set to work, it turned out that almost no information about the appearance of the traveler was preserved. This monument was erected in Kemerovo in 1968 opposite the Kuzbass Technical University - coal mining specialists are trained in this educational institution.
Monument to Russian hockey
One of the most unusual monuments of the city of Kemerovo is a monument dedicated to Russian hockey. It was installed in 2007 - when the first World Championship in this unusual sport was opened. Fans initiated the creation of the art object. They appealed to the administration of the region, where their idea was accepted and helped to implement. The monument is located at the stadium "Chemist". It consists of two parts: three clubs and a huge orange hollow ball, whose diameter is 2.5 meters! By the way, the ball is composed of seven thousand real balls.
Homeless Dog Monument
There are social monuments in the city. For example, a sculpture depicting a homeless dog. In Kemerovo, a monument appeared in 2008, the means for manufacturing were collected by caring citizens.
The author - Valery Vasilievich Treska - created a simply heartbreaking composition: a hungry stray dog is pressed to the lid of the sewer manhole. In addition, the monument is supplemented with a tablet with a poem urging Kemerovo people to be more humane and reduce the number of stray animals.
Penguin family
In 2010, the city took part in the All-Russian contest entitled "A city without cruelty to children." Then the monument “Penguin Family” made of foam concrete appeared in Kemerovo. Each figure weighs about 140 kg, and their size is 90 cm. The author of the composition, the young Kemerovo sculptor Maxim Vrublevsky, admitted that he chose the penguins not by chance: it is known that these animals are exemplary family men.
