One of the first squares of the city of Zelenograd appeared back in 1972. Its name, as well as the street adjacent to it, was due to the fact that the inhabitants of the city were mostly young, full of strength people. Zelenograd was conceived as a satellite city and was directly connected with youth. At the time the main square appeared here, he himself was not yet twenty years old. There were always a lot of people in this cozy place. At the Youth Square in Zelenograd, friends met with large companies, cooed couples, walked young mothers with strollers. And restless kids drove bicycles. They also held festivities and celebrated public holidays.
The story of the appearance of Youth Square in Zelenograd
As planned by I. Pokrovsky, the area was covered with hexagonal aircraft plates. They harmoniously combined with mosaics in the pool bowl and with mosaic patterns on the wall of a nearby shopping complex. The cinema "Electron", light in architecture, immediately settled down. It was built in 1966 and was one of the most visited at that time in Moscow. Along the perimeter, Youth Square in Zelenograd was surrounded by a parapet of cobblestones. These stones are remembered by more than one generation of young people, schoolchildren and students who loved to walk along them.
Pool or fountain?
But the main attraction of the Youth Square in Zelenograd is still a fountain. It was covered inside with glass pebbles and was conceived as a mosaic pool. He conceived in the form of an inclined bowl, inside which a pipe was drawn. Due to this, a bright mosaic pattern was washed with water and shimmered in the sun with all the colors of the rainbow.
But after some time it became clear that the design is impractical. The pool quickly clogged, pipes clogged. The water supplied in this way evaporated much faster than planned. Therefore, the city authorities decided to make a fountain out of the pool.
Reconstruction of the fountain
Already in the late 70s, water jets rose from the center of the bowl and the fountain became a favorite vacation spot for Zelenograd residents. He especially pleased the kids. They screeched along the edge of the former pool, catching up with rainbow spray and the wind that brought them. In the course of another reconstruction in the late 90s, the fountain received a "bowl". But the mosaic pattern was rarely visible, the bowl was always filled with water.
In 2017, the fountain on the Youth Square in Zelenograd was dismantled and it was seriously rebuilt. The old bowl, like the plates, was removed, the parapet from the cobblestones was dismantled.

And in just a few months, the favorite vacation spot of the inhabitants of Zelenograd was transformed. The area became comfortable, new benches appeared, paths laid with modern paving tiles.
What about the fountain? He stayed. Instead of an asymmetric bowl, a flat fountain appeared. Its jets hit from under the ground and can change their direction thanks to the music. In the dark, the pedestrian fountain is illuminated by colorful lights.
