Fights in the middle weight categories are the most spectacular in professional boxing. The high speed of athletes is combined with great physical strength, and the fights taking place in this division always attract a lot of spectators. One of the best Russian middleweight athletes is David Avanesyan. He almost immediately went into professional boxing, without having much experience in amateur sports, and established himself as a very aggressive, dominant fighter.
The path to a dream through obstacles
The biography of David Avanesyan is quite unusual for a professional boxing star. He was born in Bashkiria in 1988 in an Armenian family. This Russian region did not have good boxing traditions, and the boy simply had nowhere to do his favorite sport. However, when he learned that the physical instructor of his school had a discharge in boxing, David began to persuade him to organize a sports section, where he could develop fist fighting skills.
He agreed, and so for Avanesyan began his journey in boxing. After school, he also practiced blows at home, hanging a huge pear from a canopy, for which he listened to reproaches from his grandmother, who was afraid of a flimsy design. At the age of 14, David Avanesyan moved with his family to Pyatigorsk. Here he entered the youth club "Fighter", where he began to seriously hone the skills of big boxing. The head of this club subsequently even became the director of David.
At first, the teenager’s relatives were against his occupation in such a traumatic sport, and he had to hide his passion for boxing. At home, he said that he was attending a circle at school, and he secretly escaped to training. However, the progress of the young man was so obvious that the athlete's parents and grandmother reconciled with his passion.
First fights
David Avanesyan almost immediately began to perform in professional fights, bypassing the stage of amateur boxing. Not having wide fame and a big name, he could not count on contracts from famous foreign promoters and began his long journey on Russian territory. The first years of his career, David Avanesyan spent at home, speaking mainly in the arenas of the southern region of the country. The debut of the boxer took place in 2009 in Sochi against the same newcomer Vazgen Agadzhanyan. The fight took place in the format of a three-round match and ended with the victory of the Pyatigorsk athlete by decision of the judges.

The second match was a serious test for the Armenian-Russian boxer. He was released against the rising star Andrei Klimov, not particularly counting on victory, and the aspiring professional could not compete on equal terms with a strong opponent. David put up serious resistance, but lost in the end of the battle. The defeat hit the soldier’s pride strongly, and David Avanesyan even became ill with grief. However, the boxer quickly recovered mentally and physically, and was able to then issue a whole series of victorious fights. True, almost all rivals were the same novice professionals as he was, and the fighter did not have any special problems.
First belts
In 2011, boxer David Avanesyan got the opportunity to conduct his first title fight. The belt of the Russian welterweight champion was at stake, and the rival of the Armenian was Ruslan Khairtdinov, who won in all his previous fights. A tough and stubborn duel took place in the oncoming struggle, the fighters were not afraid to go for exchanges with blows. Despite the fact that Ruslan was considered a favorite, David Avanesyan was able to make a more favorable impression on the judges and was declared the winner.
In the same year, the Armenian was able to take another title, defeating Samuel Camau in the match for the belt of the WBC welterweight youth champion. In 2012, David Avanesyan knocked out James Onyang and won the WBC Asian Championship. Subsequently, the boxer was able to pick up the title of the best boxer in the Baltic countries and for several years he defended his belts while fighting in Russian arenas.
The fight for the world crown
Having earned a good reputation, David Avanesyan got the opportunity to conduct his battles outside of Russia. Since 2014, he regularly travels abroad, speaking in England, the USA. One of the defining fights in his career was the battle against Venezuelan Charlie Navarro, which took place in Monaco in 2015. The stakes were higher than ever - at stake was the title of interim world champion according to the WBC.
The Armenian suppressed his opponent, throwing a hurricane of blows at him, and the referee stopped the beating of the Latin American, having determined a technical knockout. A year later, David Avanesyan for the first time in his life got the opportunity to confront the world star of professional boxing. Against him came the legendary Shane Mosley, who hoped even at the end of his career to win a couple of bright victories. However, the duel taking place in Arizona was confidently controlled by the younger and faster David Avanesyan, who defended his belt.
Second defeat
In 2016, the WBC declared the Russian boxer the regular world champion due to the fact that Keith Thurman was recognized as the super champion of this boxing organization. In February 2017, the last battle of David Avanesyan took place. In the Cincinnati arena, he confronted Lemont Peterson, who was a very strong rival. The duel turned out to be very spectacular and memorable.
The American rained one jab on David after another, and Avanesyan had to retreat. However, he retreated with battle and did not allow the enemy to succeed. In some parts of the match, a desperate exchange of blows began, and it seemed that everything could be decided in one episode. However, the battle lasted all the required 12 rounds and ended in a minimal victory for the American challenger. Today David Avanesyan is not even thirty, his career is in its prime, and he is diligently preparing for new challenges.
