Elegant “confidential” is a designation of a very close person with whom it is pleasant to spend time and to whom a terrible secret can be entrusted. When did the definition appear and how to use it correctly?

The concept is based on sincere relationships. Philologists call the pre-Indo-European root * bhidh- or "faith" the primary source. From him came the Latin fides:
- confidence;
- the trust;
- Vera.
In combination with the prefix cum- “along with” - the basis for “relying” confidere, and then confidens arose , which indicated a completely self-confident person. However, “confidential” is borrowing through French:

Is a spy or scout a confidential? Wherever there are secret plans, it is appropriate to use a capacious definition. It penetrated into the Russian language in the 18th century and was immediately put into circulation by special services. The word under investigation denoted people who worked behind enemy lines, carried out the most complex and dangerous missions, reported on the enemy’s plans.
However, the term quickly went out of circulation and only in recent decades returned to the professional vocabulary. It is used in relation to those citizens who provide active assistance during operational-search activities, but do not do it publicly.
