Metro station "Baumanskaya". Past and present

The Baumanskaya metro station (Moscow) of Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya (blue line) is located in the east of the city center in the Basmanny district. This Moscow region has an interesting history and today is one of the centers of business and cultural activity. There are many industrial enterprises, scientific organizations, cultural sites.

District History

In the XVII century there was a German settlement, where Peter the Great often visited. Here he met his future associates Gordon and Lefort. The Moscow district, which is located near the Baumanskaya metro station, is called Lefortovo. A lot has been written about the novel of Peter I with the charming Anna Mons, which developed in the German settlement. After the Patriotic War of 1812, the settlement was inhabited mainly by tradesmen and merchants. The street became known as German. In 1918, it was renamed Baumanskaya in memory of the revolutionary N.E. Bauman, who was killed here in 1905.

Not far from the Baumanskaya metro station is the famous Epiphany Cathedral in Elokhovo. Spartakovskaya street, where it is located, was formerly called Yelokhovskaya. The temple was built in 1853 and never closed. There are rumors among parishioners that they were supposed to close it on June 22, 1941, but the outbreak of war prevented this. In the same area are the Moscow Puppet Theater, the Drama Theater β€œModern” (it occupies a building built in 1911, which used to be the Bread Exchange).

On Baumanskaya street is the famous technical university of MSTU. Bauman. This oldest educational institution in Russia has existed since 1826 and during its work has brought up many talented and bright scientists and engineers.

Subway station

The construction of a section of this line began in 1938, and by 1941 70% of the work had been completed. After the start of World War II, it was suspended, and the constructed tunnels were used as bomb shelters.

Station lobby

In 1943, construction was continued, and on January 18, 1944, the station started operating. The ground lobby is a portal with granite columns and relief images. The deep-laid pylon tricuspid station is located at a depth of 32.5 m. The station was designed by B. Iofan. Sculptures of V.A. Andreev, who did not live to see the completion of his work, are installed in niches. In 1970, gypsum sculptures were replaced by their bronze counterparts.

Sculpture at the metro station

In 2015, the station was closed for reconstruction. There, the oldest working escalators at that time were replaced by escalators of a new type. Instead of three, four lifts are now operating.

Bauman Alliance

In the dystopia of D. Glukhovsky "Metro-2033" A small state is described - the Bauman Alliance. It is peaceful, but well armed. He is engaged in the repair and production of equipment and weapons at the Baumanskaya metro station (Moscow). Amazing lizards live in the line between Bauman and Elektrozavodskaya, which can copy human laughter and paralyze their victims.
