Chain of stores "Magnet": the history of the founding of the company and the opening of the first store

The history of the creation of Tander, the largest of the Magnit food retailers, is instructive and interesting. This is one of the most visited and prosperous stores in Russia, which has surpassed the popularity of such chains as Pyaterochka, Perekrestok, Karusel.

A little about the founder of the company

A well-known company in the Russian Federation is owned by Sergei Galitsky, founder and now chairman of this supermarket chain. It was with this man that the story of Magnet began.

Sergey Galitsky - founder of the company

Born on August 14, 67 in the Krasnodar Territory, Sergei Galitsky was seriously interested in chess. As a result, received the title of champion of the city of Sochi. After the army in 87, he entered the University of Kuban at the Faculty of Economics for National Economy Planning. Today, Sergei’s fortune is equivalent to a billion dollars, but once he even worked as a loader, later a clerk with the transfer to the post of deputy manager in the Krasnodar Bank.

Sergei’s long-standing hobby more than once helped out, because it was chess that developed logical thinking and abilities in mathematics, without which it is simply impossible to do anything in business.

History of the creation of the "Magnet"

Formed in 1995, the Tander company, headed by Sergey Galitsky, was obtained by dividing Transasia, a company created by former classmates. The latter company was engaged in the supply of chemical products and cosmetics from the world famous brands Johnson & Johnson and Avon.

Hypermarket opening

In 1998, the first grocery store opened, followed by the opening of other points of sale in small towns, this guaranteed no competition with large supermarkets. The area of stores reached 400 squares, but over time, combined with other trading enterprises, grew into a distribution network. Sergei Galitsky called his retail outlets low-cost stores "near the house."

10 years of development in the history of "Magnet" were not in vain. Therefore, today a trading network with a turnover of 1.5 billion has outperformed its largest competitor, Pyaterochka. The owner of the company with a fortune of 460 million topped the list of the richest and most influential people in the world according to Forbes rating.

The atmosphere inside the store

The number of stores by the end of 2006 reached 1900, and in 2010 there were already more than 4 thousand. The first ever Magnit hypermarket was opened in 2007, but today there are already 50 of them throughout Russia, with about 100,000 employees.

Retail chain

If we consider some indicators of the network, it should be noted that over the two decades of the history of Magnet, the Thunder company has become a leader among food retailers in the Russian Federation. Today it has 10,700 markets, 237 hypermarkets, 189 family stores and 3,100 cosmetic stores in more than 2,500 cities of the Russian Federation.

The uninterrupted work of transporting goods unites 35 centers of distribution and dispatch of goods to customers.

The distribution network works efficiently, taking into account the specifics of goods, storage periods and sales. Deliveries are made on time, because the company has its own fleet with 6000 units of equipment necessary for the transport of goods. In addition, so far the number of jobs is only increasing. Therefore, the right of Magnit to call itself the largest employer in Russia is fully justified. The company is also considered the “Most Attractive Employer” if we consider the research conducted by the independent portal Superjob.

Company own fleet

However, endless growth is impossible, therefore, the decline in the Magnit growth rate is predictable. For example, in 2011 it amounted to 42.13%, and in 2016 already 13.07%. Currently, the company's shares are sold on the MICEX stock exchange at a price of 9280 rubles apiece. Moreover, experts predict that a new recession, which will be the largest in the history of the Magnit network, is expected next year.

Awards and recognition

The results of the exchange in London showed that at the end of 2012, the company's value exceeded 21 billion in dollar terms. For 15 years of the history of the Magnit chain of stores, it has overtaken all competitors and topped the list of the best retailers in Russia.

In 2014, the chain outranked the most expensive retail brands in Europe. Forbes claims that in the 16th year, the company won the title of innovative enterprise, becoming one of the hundred largest innovative companies. RBC put it in eighth place in the ranking of "Top 500".

Work in Magnet

Today, the company is one of the five most expensive brands in the Russian Federation. Since market capitalization counts up to $ 19 billion of working capital, it is ranked 18th on the Brand Finance list, where the most influential and respectable companies for the past year are noted.

Sergei always believed that you need to go to work with pleasure. Only in this case a person gives all his best and gets, accordingly, the best profit from the job. You always need to look for something that has the ability and desire. So, at an open meeting in Skolkovo, Galitsky’s merits were voiced, of which the nomination “Person of the Year 2017”, “Hero of Labor of the Kuban”, the title “Businessman of the Year” awarded to him in 2011 and, of course, a nominal watch from the president were especially vivid countries for their contribution to the economic development of the country in 2006.

Quality control

The indisputability of maintaining product quality at the proper level involved a number of comprehensive works. The continuity of the process at any of its stages, whether it is the choice of the manufacturer or the sale of goods, requires a thorough check on the quality of the products.

Vegetables and fruits

Also, quality involves customer service at the proper level. Therefore, the service should be at its best, creating comfortable conditions for the purchase of goods.

The principle of the control organization system implies legality, customer orientation and the prevention of health-hazardous products to store shelves.

The latter involves several organizational points, adhering to which it is easy to track a low-quality product.

Storage and transportation system

Own well-functioning transportation system, industrial park, centers for the distribution of goods can maintain a certain level of product quality. This eliminates the hit of bad goods on the shelves of supermarkets.

Audit of companies supplying products

Throughout the history of Magnit, employees of the company have learned to assess the risks from the supply of low-grade goods, namely to check warehouses and production facilities for compliance with sanitary rules and standards, in accordance with the law. If necessary, rules and requirements are developed together with the supplier in order to avoid the slightest risk.

Laboratory Product Research

Since the beginning of the history of the discovery of Magnit, the company has been partnering with leading institutes accredited for testing. The products are checked for compliance with the declared quality and requirements in the legislation.

Tasting Expertise

Tasting is the most important part of the test. It allows you to track the slightest changes in the taste characteristics of products.

Hot line

This is a great opportunity to get feedback from the consumer, and subsequently improve service and product quality. Dissatisfaction on the part of the consumer is subjected to a balanced analysis and, if this is truly justified, then the product may even disappear from store shelves.

Own production

Throughout its history, the Magnit store has supported the development of its own trading brand in the sale of a product, the so-called STM. Often, such a product is a ready-made meal, which is produced right here, in the kitchens of the store itself. Storage or transport of such products is excluded.

Sausage department

The following measures have been taken to comply with food safety standards and quality required by law:

  • new modern equipment is used;
  • manufacturing technique is maintained;
  • only high-quality raw materials are used;
  • increases the level of professionalism of employees;
  • control is carried out at any production stage and during the sale of goods.

Not a single product prepared in the kitchens of the supermarket will appear in the culinary department before it passes internal control. A certain procedure for conducting inspections within the enterprise has been approved in order to assess the degree of compliance with sanitation and hygiene where such production takes place. In this case, it’s an internal audit expert, plus connecting cameras.

Finally

It is worth saying that over its long and successful history, Magnit has been able to gain absolute leadership among major grocery chains in Russia. And all this happened thanks to the excellent managerial characteristics of the company's founder, Sergey Galitsky. Today he continues to improve the work of his brainchild, making thousands of people and millions of consumers throughout Russia, who are available with high-quality and fresh products every day, happy owners of good work.
