Turning various parts

Turning seems like a simple and straightforward process. This is because the choice of the desired part is limited by existing bodies of revolution, and the movement of the tool is carried out only in one plane. However, in reality this is not so. In turning, various forms of the tool used and a wide range of diverse technologies are used.

Turning

Technical capabilities

Turning from a technical point of view allows you to perform the following operations:

- turning and boring of a circle and forgings;

- cutting and processing of the plane;

- slotting of various profiles;

- threading.

Types

There are several types of turning, namely:

  • Turning metalworking. This method allows to obtain cylindrical parts due to cutting. This type of processing is considered the most popular. To carry out such a procedure, a material of a high degree of hardness, strength, heat and wear resistance is used. Often tool lathes process carbon and alloy steels, including cermet alloys.
  • Drilling This process allows making blind and through holes in metal blanks. A spiral drill is used for this .
  • Boring. This procedure is used to increase the diameter of the holes in the part. Such work is carried out on vertical or horizontal boring machines.
  • Planing. This procedure is carried out using the reciprocating work of the incisors. There are longitudinal-planing and transverse-planing machines for such processing.
  • Stretching. This procedure allows the machining of the product. The basis of this work is a tool with a large number of blades.
  • Milling. Such a procedure is carried out with a special effective tool with various blades or milling cutters of various shapes.
  • Grinding. Turning at the final stage is presented in the form of this procedure, which consists in grinding the surface of the product using sharp edges of abrasive materials that remove a thin layer of metal.

Turning parts

To obtain cylindrical parts, the craftsmen apply turning of the parts. This procedure is carried out in the form of boring and turning of cylindrical, conical and shaped surfaces, as well as trimming and machining of the ends, drilling, threading. Turning of parts can be carried out both on a metal lathe and on a wood lathe. It all depends on the equipment available.

Turning wood. Features and Highlights

Wood turning

Another important process in turning is the turning of wood. To carry out such work, woodworking machines are used to grind various shapes from cylindrical wood. Good tools are considered to be those machines whose working surface is made of high quality steel. The lathe allows you to make a wide variety of products: spinning wheels, dishes, toys, other household items.
