Russia is a country with a rapidly developing economy in the last decade. Every year more and more companies are opening in our state, business is starting to intensify. In this article we will talk about the largest Russian companies.
Gazprom
PJSC Gazprom was founded in 1990. In just a few years of operation, this company has become one of the largest in Russia. The corporation's activity is the extraction, transportation and processing of gas and oil. It occupies a key place in the production of thermal energy. An interesting fact is that only in 2016, the net profit of the corporation amounted to about 325 billion rubles. Other major Russian oil companies are inferior to Gazprom by several positions. Until 2011, the corporation had a monopoly on the export of gas from the state.
In 2011, the company was honored to take first place in the Forbes ranking of "100 Most Profitable Companies in the World." Now it ranks first in terms of profitability in Russia.
Sberbank
For several years in a row, a successful Russian commercial bank has been consistently included in the TOP-10 of the largest Russian companies. According to 2016 data, the bank's net profit amounted to slightly less than 542 billion rubles. Sberbank provides customers with a wide range of banking services, is the most popular among the Russian population.
Even such a large organization experienced political problems. For example, in Ukraine, activists urged compatriots not to be served at Sberbank. In 2013, pogroms and damage to company property became more frequent. And in 2014, a financial organization came under EU sanctions.
"Russian Railways"
Russian Railways is one of the youngest among the largest Russian companies. It was founded in 2003 by the government of the Russian Federation. Net profit over the past year amounted to slightly less than 4 billion rubles. Since 2015, Oleg Belozerov has been appointed president of Russian Railways. By 2017, the company plans to open a large museum in St. Petersburg dedicated to railways.
Rosneft
The company was founded in 1993, and its main enterprises were opened in Soviet times. If in 1998 Rosneft faced huge financial difficulties and was in a crisis situation, now its annual profit is about 377 billion rubles.
As a rule, large companies in the Russian market pay a lot of attention to ecology and the environment; Rosneft is no exception. The Corporation guarantees its employees safe working conditions, improves their quality of life and supports educational projects, in particular, the University named after Gubkin.
"Magnet"
Magnit is a chain of grocery stores popular among the Russian population, often in the format of a convenience store . The founder of the network was Sergey Galitsky, who opened the first Magnit in 1994. In 2008, at the height of the crisis, the company received government support. Over the past year, Magnitβs net profit amounted to about 27 billion rubles. In 2016, the network included more than 12,000 stores. Not all of the largest Russian companies have so many stores.
X5 Retail Group
The public company was established in 2005 by the merger of two fairly large Russian retail chains - Perekrestok and Pyaterochka. Every year the company is expanding more and more and opens up new networks. Over the past decade, Karusel hypermarkets, the Zeleny Perekrestok premium supermarket, and Express stores have been opened. For the year, the company's net profit amounted to more than 22,000 million rubles. According to data for 2016, the number of employees of the company is slightly less than 200 thousand people.
Russian enterprises often take part in charitable assistance; the X5 Retail Group is far from an exception. Life Line is a foundation with which the holding has been cooperating for a long time. The foundation aims to save seriously ill children. Several years ago, in all stores of the network, the charity campaign "Candy of Life" was launched. Pyaterochka annually presents food gifts to veterans.
