Russian is the richest language, and sometimes one word includes many semantic options.
The concept of “ground floor” is not an exception, and therefore people of various professions perceive it also motley.
What is a stall?
The general meaning is associated with the word "bottom", in translation from French - "on the earth." Despite the number of concepts contained in one word, they all have one thing in common.
In the theatre
Spectators, who have at least once purchased tickets for performances or concerts, are well aware of what a stall is in the theater: the lowest place in the hall, located in the middle.
Between him and the stage there may be a pit in which the orchestra will play. Places in this zone are considered elite, because they provide an opportunity:
- consider the ongoing action in all its details;
- plunge into the world of music and get enough of it;
- understand the full content of the text.
The only disadvantage of this layout can be considered:
- it is inconvenient to keep your head up, thereby being constantly in a tense position.
At concerts
There are halls that include several zones: with seats (most often on the sides) and free space - a dance ground.
Its role is to allow viewers to freely move around the space during compositions. Tickets to this area are most often purchased by people who like to dance to fiery music.
However, there are several unpleasant moments:
- often the crowd behaves too violently, and standing can be extremely uncomfortable, or even dangerous;
- people are in close contact with each other, and fraudsters can take advantage of this moment;
- all viewers are of different stature, because it is quite difficult for owners of miniature parameters to see something on stage.
Martial arts
Fans of dangerous sports know what a stall is in a fight: finding a wrestler in a prone position (touching the floor sideways, back, chest).
This means not only a fully horizontal position, but also a lap rack, as well as a bridge or half bridge.
In Greco-Roman and freestyle, the lower stance is as full as the stance on the legs. It is built on the principle of "three points": two hands with one knee or two knees with one hand touch the surface of the floor.
In judo, the situation in which the two participants touch the mat (in Japan it is called "tatami") of one of their knees is taken as a stall.
In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling, the fight deliberately goes in the position of the stalls. The transition to this position occurs by taking the wrestler out of balance or using a throw. Further, suffocating tricks and impacts on pain points are used until the opponent decides to give up.
However, not all martial arts apply this technique. As an example, you can take a sumo, where the fight is conducted only in a standing position, and any touch on the floor of one of the limbs, not counting the feet, is considered to be a victory.
Marvelous garden
Which people do not like well-groomed plants blooming with beautiful patterns and wonderfully smelling all the notes of magic ?! It is difficult to imagine cultural capitals and kingdoms without magnificent parks, but few people know what a stall is in them. This place (often underestimated) in the open space with a predominance of lawns.
It may also contain ponds and flower beds. Plants need constant care and a mandatory haircut, with which you can give them any geometric shape.
Parterre was very much loved in France (XVII century), where several varieties of it arose.
- Lace. It was created from inanimate flowers and had a rather complex pattern. For example, the famous stall at the palace of Tsarskoye Selo.
- Patterned. The most complicated schemes of cut plants. For example, the estate of Vaux-le-Viscount in France.
- English. Combines plants and sand.
- Cut. Flowers are planted with geometric patterns, associated with cut fragments.
- Water. In addition to plants, artificial reservoirs were created.
- Sculptural with fountains.
Nowadays, styles are often intertwined.
Total
No one will doubt: the great Russian language includes an extensive range of meanings, as a result of which, when asked about what a stall is, it gives several answers.
It is amazing how elegantly one word is able to accommodate such diverse, but united by logic definitions.
