Severnaya TPP, St. Petersburg - description, history and interesting facts

Cogeneration plants are universal facilities. This is the type of power plant that not only produces electrical energy, but also acts as a source of heat for a centralized heating and water supply infrastructure (i.e., it supplies water vapor and hot water for residential and non-residential buildings). Let's talk about one of the most important heating plants - St. Petersburg Northern Thermal Power Station. Let's start with the characteristics of the object.

About the heating plant

Full name - Northern CHPP-21. Belongs to TGK-1 OJSC (Territorial Generating Company-1). Severnaya is one of the power companies of its parent company. Refers to the Nevsky branch.

Severnaya TPP in St. Petersburg was put into operation in 1975. Today it employs more than 300 people. Director of the facility - P. Chepelev

Address of Northern CHP: pos. Novo-Devyatkino (Vsevolzhsky district of the Leningrad region). The map will orient you with its exact location.

CHP characteristics

The main characteristics of JSC "TPP-North" are as follows:

  • The main fuel is natural gas. Reserve, additional - fuel oil.
  • Installed electric power: 500 MW.
  • Installed heating capacity: 1188 Gcal / hour.
  • Amount of electricity generated (per year): 1870 million kWh.
  • Heat supply (per year): 2995 thousand Gcal.
  • Generators: TVF-120-2UZ.

Severnaya TPP supplies heat and electricity to residential buildings, public and commercial organizations, enterprises of the Kalininsky and Vyborgsky districts of St. Petersburg, as well as suburban villages. Novo-Devyatkino and Medvezhiy Stan (Leningrad Region, Vsevolzhsky District). Total coverage is estimated at 700,000.

History and interesting facts

The construction of the Northern Thermal Power Plant started on December 29, 1970. Five years later (08/29/1975) its first block was already launched. And already at the end of the eighties KIUM (installed capacity utilization factor) of the heating plant was recognized as the maximum - 60%.

The following interesting fact: in 1984, the Leningrad branch of Atomteploelektroproekt developed a project for the construction of the second stage of the Northern Heating Central. According to the plans, it had to have two power units in it - 180 MW each and 520 Gcal / h.

This expansion was in tune with the Leningrad Master Plan. Under this project, the massive development of the northern regions with residential multi-story buildings was intended. The second stage of the Northern CHPP in Devyatkino together with the North-Western Heat and Power Plant were considered as replacing the nuclear power plants of the Northern capital. The project fit into the plans of the USSR economy, which is why the Ministry of Electrification and Electricity of the Union approved it without any problems.

Further, in the 80-90s, many projects were developed to further increase the capacity of the Northern CHP, which functioned only 60% of its full capacity. However, the difficult situation in the country's economy, and the change in the vectors of the development strategy of St. Petersburg did not allow such plans to come true.

As for the present day, the Severnaya CHPP of St. Petersburg is still considered a heating center with a large reserve of electric and heat capacity. Its further expansion depends only on the development of the northern regions of the city and adjacent areas.

Modern modernization and re-equipment

Let's look at the modern development of the heating plant.

year 2013. The following work was carried out:

  • Overhaul of the turbine unit and boiler unit in the power unit No. 1.
  • Modernization of the burner ignition system - the introduction of automatic structures for controlling burner devices.
  • Replacement of the cell SEU-20. The purpose of the work is to provide hydrogen cooling for generators of energy blocks.
  • Installed high-speed arc protection on the switchgear 6-10 kV.
  • Reconstruction of the metering station for heat and power: increased throughput capacity of the in-station section of the Novodevyatkinskaya heating main.

2015 year. Overhaul of the second power unit was carried out.

2017 year. Overhaul of the fifth power unit has been completed.

General development plans of the Northern CHPP after 2015: construction of power units No. 6 and No. 7. The extension is justified by the draft General Development Plan of St. Petersburg.

Northern Thermal Power Plants

You can find in news and information sources data on other heating plants, called the Northern ones. They have nothing to do with the Severnaya No. 21 TPP in St. Petersburg.

The name Severnaya also bears the Moscow CHP-27, which is located in the village of Chelobityevo, Mytishchi, the capital region. This facility is part of the Mosenergo generating company system. The electric power of this station is estimated at 1060 MW. During the year, the CHPP on average produces 2600 thousand Gcal of thermal energy and 1298 million kW / hour - of electric energy.

There is a Northern CHP in Astrakhan. Its activity is the generation of electricity and heat. The main office is located in Astrakhan, on the street. Mosin, 1a (third floor of the building).
