Ring motorsport in Russia is becoming more interesting, massive and attractive for pilots and sponsors. He had excellent prospects for development thanks to the cooperation of SMP Racing and the Russian Automobile Federation. Today, the national and international competitions can be hosted by the Nizhny Novgorod Ring, St. Petersburg, Canyon, and Red Ring routes. The Smolensk Ring is also not ignored.
History and Description
In recent years, a lot of new highway-ring racing has opened in the country. One of them is the Smolensk Ring. The construction of the race track began in 2008. Herman Tilke worked on her project. The well-known German architect, the creator of almost all new racing tracks of the famous Formula 1 championship, making the most of the local terrain features, created a high-level track. Its technical specifications comply with all the requirements of the FIA and category I according to the classification of the RAF.
The Smolensk Ring circuit is classified as an international racetrack. It is intended for the organization of ring racing of all classes, with the exception of Formula 1.
The circuit has a length of 3362 kilometers, the width of the canvas is 13-15 meters. One of its key characteristics is the number of turns. They make the race quite spectacular. For DTM Series vehicles, the maximum speed is 241 km / h. At the same time, 30/32 Formula class cars or sport prototypes can compete at the race track.
The race track meets all safety requirements and allows you to hold car competitions at the world level. Special barriers, a repair box, a maintenance area are provided, the start-finish and pit lane zones are divided.
Busy schedule
Of the serious competitions that took place on the Smolensk Ring, it is worth noting the stage of the European championship on truck racing and the first stage of the bodywork racing series in Russia. The racetrack regularly hosts competitions of all-Russian scale, as well as championships of the CIS countries.
First stage ring competitions in the framework of the RSKG in the spring of 2014, it was held at the Smolensk Ring Ring. This year’s race schedule is pretty tight. In addition to the Russian championship, in May the Championship of the Republic of Belarus in automobile ring races was held.
Planned activities
Many more spectacular events are planned at the racetrack during the year:
- August 23-24 - Formula Russia Championship together with the RSKG;
- September 13-14 - RHHCC amateur championship stages;
- October 4-5 - a series of races Porsche Cup
- October 11-12 - RHHCC and the championship of the Republic of Belarus in ring motorsport.
As part of the amateur championships, the RHHCC will play the Slavic Cup. It is planned to hold the stage of the amateur all-Russian racing series Max Power Cars. Also, for the first time, masters of driving the so-called controlled drift from RDS will participate at the race track.
It is worth noting that this year the entrance for spectators to the stages of the RSKG is free.
Smolensk Ring accepts private and club events. Here, track days are often held for everyone who wants to feel an independent drive on the race track. During free rides, any driver in a private car can use one or more sessions.
New Horizons
The Smolensk Ring continues its development. In 2015, it is planned to return the race track to the calendar of the European Championship of truck racing, as truck racing will attract many fans.
