The question of what a CVC code is is only for users of the world wide web who pay for goods and services online with a credit or debit card. Most virtual payment systems after the card number request the data of this code, and people are often lost, trying to enter a PIN code or some other password. As a result, the payment does not pass, and the potential buyer remains at a loss. So what is the cryptic CVC code and where to look for it?
CVC / CVV is a verification code, the additional digits of which are printed on a bank card. Its names are different. So, they may ask you for an “authentication code” - CVV, “security code” or “personal security code”.
Please note: in regular stores at the checkout you need to enter a PIN code, i.e. password. A CVC-code will be required only when paying online.
Why do I need a code
Its main goal is to protect and secure online purchases. The seller will see only the name and surname of the client, and the code will be hidden from him. This is ensured by a special connection that uses the SSL protocol. To enhance security and make sure that the card is really in the hands of its owner, you may also be asked for information about the validity period of the card.
Where it is located
The standard Visa and MasterCard CVC codes are located in the signature field on the back of the card as a standard three-digit number. And on AMEX (American Express) cards, you need to look for it on the front side - these will be four digits.
The code is never printed in relief, unlike the card number itself. It is not printed on paper checks, therefore it is unknown to unauthorized persons.
If no code
It happens that there is no CVV / CVC code on the card, which means you won’t be able to pay online. You will have to look for other payment methods - WebMoney, Yandex.Money, etc. or order another type of card on which the code will be present.
More digits
Another situation that raises questions from users is what to do if not three numbers are printed on the back, but seven. In fact, there is no problem. The first four digits simply duplicate the end of the card number, but the last three - this is the code you need.
Cases of fraud
Always ensure that data about the code does not fall into the hands of third parties. For example, now there is a well-known trick in the network: on the sites they post a proposal to check the security level of your card and for this they ask to enter its number and CVC code. Do you understand why this is really necessary? If you provide the data, you will in fact give scammers access to your bank account. They can easily use your card for any online payments or simply withdraw all possible money from it. Therefore, be careful!
Safety regulations
In order for your online purchases to become really comfortable and safe, you need to follow simple rules: do not post information about your card on unverified web resources, leave suspicious sites, delete personal information.
If strangers learned the code
Everything happens in life, and the most sensible action in this case is to immediately call the bank with a request to block your card.
Nevertheless, paying for goods and services online is really very convenient - it helps to save a lot of time and increases the choice. The basic security of such purchases is provided by the CVC-code, and then there are questions of common sense and experience.
