Every year, the capital of our homeland, Moscow, is becoming more and more beautiful. South Butovo is one of its districts, which belongs to the South-Western administrative capital district.

Around Butovo there are several legends. Why did the district get such a name? The history of this area is quite interesting.

At least three legends go about the origin of the name of the district. According to one of them, Emperor Peter the Great presented these lands to the famous General Butov, since his surname and the name of the land surprisingly coincided.

The second legend says that for a long time a stone-sandstone quarry was mined in the area . Residential buildings and buildings were built from this material. Moreover, the laminated stone was transported to Moscow for the construction of boyars' chambers, temples and churches.

According to the third legend, the district was named after the brave Cossack by the name of Butov. Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov bestowed a vassal of land along with the village. Subsequently, it was named after this Cossack. Butov received such a generous gift for a petition from the Cossacks for recognition as sovereign of Mikhail Fedorovich.
